Imran Khan’s sister, Uzma Khan, was permitted to meet the imprisoned former Pakistani Prime Minister at Adiala Jail on Tuesday evening, even as Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) supporters prepared for mass demonstrations across Rawalpindi. The meeting came at a time when rumours were spreading rapidly on social media that the PTI chairman had allegedly been killed in custody, according to a report by Geo News.

After her meeting, Uzma addressed the media and revealed that Imran Khan had been subjected to mental torture and solitary confinement. She also dismissed the swirling allegations of his death, confirming that he was alive and physically stable.

Imran Khan is fine, his health is good. He has been put in solitary confinement, he is being emotionally tortured,” she said, reiterating that the former PM was deliberately isolated and denied communication.

Uzma added that Imran himself complained of psychological torture. “He said he hasn’t met or spoken to anyone. They are mentally torturing him. He is furious, and he said Asim Munir is responsible for everything happening,” she told reporters.

Previous reports suggested that any visits allowed by prison authorities came with gag orders, restricting the family from speaking publicly. However, Uzma stated that no such conditions were imposed during this visit. “We don’t accept conditions,” she said while entering the heavily guarded prison complex.

The rumours about Imran Khan’s death, circulating for several days, escalated tensions outside Adiala Jail. For weeks, authorities had denied access to his family despite multiple court directives, fueling suspicions. Imran, who has been jailed for nearly two years in a tangle of corruption and terrorism cases, had not been seen by relatives for weeks—leading to fears of foul play.

PTI supporters and loyalists called for major protests in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday, demanding immediate access for the family. The government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif responded by banning public gatherings and heavily fortifying Rawalpindi, creating the possibility of a clash between protesters and security forces.

However, by afternoon, jail authorities allowed one of Imran’s sisters to see him. “Happy to finally receive permission for the meeting,” Uzma told reporters before entering the facility, promising to speak again after the meeting.

Imran Khan’s family had earlier alleged that the former PM was being kept in a “death cell” and that the government was hiding a serious, possibly irreversible medical condition. Their claims intensified pressure on authorities and triggered week-long protests outside the prison.

Security around Adiala Jail was further tightened before the meeting. Authorities added five new checkpoints along the main routes, while more than 700 heavily armed security personnel in anti-riot gear were deployed to control the unrest caused by PTI supporters and Imran’s sisters staging sit-ins.

The situation escalated last week when Imran Khan’s sisters claimed they were dragged on the road, manhandled, and briefly detained by police while attempting to reach the prison gate. Videos circulating online showed chaotic scenes as police tried to disperse demonstrators demanding proof of Imran’s wellbeing.

Meanwhile, both the Adiala Jail administration and the Pakistani government continue to deny all rumours regarding Imran’s deteriorating health or death. A statement issued by the jail clarified: “There is no truth to reports about his transfer from Adiala Jail. He is fully healthy and receiving complete medical attention.”
