In a major crackdown, Peel Regional Police (PRP) in Canada have arrested eight Indian nationals accused of stealing mail valued at more than $400,000 (₹2.44 crore) in a sophisticated theft operation. The suspects allegedly carried out systematic thefts from home mailboxes across Mississauga and Brampton, two densely populated areas in the Peel Region.
The accused could soon face deportation as authorities coordinate with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Crown Attorney’s Office to determine their immigration status and potential removal from the country.
The arrests were the result of a joint Investigation that began in April this year, involving Canada Post, Halton Regional Police, and Peel Regional Police. The probe was launched after multiple complaints of residential mail theft were reported across Peel Region.
Months-Long Operation Leads to Multiple Arrests
Police executed search warrants on September 8 and 9 at several residential properties in Mississauga, including homes on Rhinebank Street, Brandon Gate Drive, Dwiggin Avenue, and Kittridge Drive. The coordinated enforcement action uncovered a large amount of stolen mail and financial instruments.
During the raids, investigators recovered more than 450 pieces of stolen mail, including 20 gift cards, 182 credit cards, 35 government-issued ID documents, and 255 cheques. Authorities estimate the total value of the stolen property exceeds $400,000 CAD.
Eight Accused Face 344 Property-Related Charges
The eight individuals, aged between 21 and 29, are facing a total of 344 property-related charges, including theft, possession of stolen property, and Fraud-related offenses.
The accused have been identified as Sumanpreet Singh (28) of Mississauga, Gurdeep Chattha (29), Jashandeep Jattana (23), Harman Singh (28), Jasanpreet Singh (21), Manroop Singh (23), Rajbir Singh (26), and Upinderjit Singh. All suspects appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton for a bail hearing.
According to an official police statement, “Peel Regional Police are working closely with the Peel Crown Attorney’s Office and the Canada Border Services Agency to determine whether deportation of the accused foreign nationals may be pursued as part of the judicial process.”
Police Seek Public Assistance
Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity around community mailboxes. The Peel Regional Police have also requested anyone with additional information related to the ongoing investigation to contact them directly or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
This large-scale mail theft operation in Canada has raised serious concerns about identity theft, financial fraud, and the exploitation of postal systems. The case continues to unfold as police and immigration officials assess whether deportation will be the final consequence for the accused Indian nationals.
