CCTV footage of two courageous nurses protecting neonates in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of a hospital in Nagaon city has gone viral on social media. Hospital CCTV Captures Brave Act

The video, recorded at Aditya Nursing Home around 4:40 p.m., shows two nurses responding immediately to the earthquake by shielding and holding the infants in the NICU. One nurse is seen shielding a baby, while the other holds onto two newborns as strong tremors shake the room.

Despite objects like a mirror, an oxygen cylinder, and other medical equipment moving violently, the nurses remained calm and continued to protect the infants until the tremors subsided.

Epicentre and Aftershocks

According to seismic reports, the epicentre of the 5.8 earthquake was located in Assam’s Udalguri district at a shallow depth of five kilometers. Tremors were felt across Guwahati, Udalguri, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Nalbari, and several other districts, forcing people to rush out of their homes in fear.

Within minutes, two aftershocks followed — one of magnitude 3.1 at 4:58 p.m. and another of magnitude 2.9 at 5:21 p.m. The tremors were also experienced in parts of West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur.

Public Reaction

The nurses’ heroic actions during the earthquake have sparked admiration on social media. Many have called them an inspiration, highlighting the crucial role of frontline healthcare workers during emergencies.
