Patna, Bihar: A tense atmosphere gripped Mokama on Thursday after Dularchand Yadav, a key Jan Suraaj campaign worker, was shot dead while promoting Prashant Kishor’s candidate in the region. The incident, which occurred just days before the Bihar assembly elections, has triggered widespread outrage and intensified political friction in the state.
According to early reports, the attack took place in Taratar village, where Yadav, who had previously contested from the Mokama Assembly seat, was campaigning. Police confirmed that Yadav was first shot in the leg and then hit by a speeding vehicle, leading to his death. Authorities have vowed to “probe all angles” in the case, said Baadh ADPO Abhishek Singh.
Police Investigation and Initial Findings
The Patna district administration released an official statement on social media, clarifying that Yadav’s death took place during a clash between supporters of two rival candidates. The statement also mentioned that Yadav was facing multiple criminal cases.
“The post-mortem is being conducted and additional Investigation is underway. Searches are being carried out to identify and arrest those involved,” police confirmed. Enhanced security has been deployed across Mokama to prevent further unrest.

Political Blame Game and Allegations
As the investigation deepens, JDU candidate Anant Singh directly accused former RJD MP Surajbhan Singh, husband of RJD candidate Veena Devi, of masterminding the attack.
“We were urging people to vote for us when supporters of another candidate started shouting slogans. I asked my people not to react, but Surajbhan’s men attacked our vehicles. Dularchand was the first to resist and was shot. Our cars were vandalized — this entire game is being played by Surajbhan Singh,” alleged Anant Singh while addressing the media.
Jan Suraaj’s Response and Prashant Kishor’s Reaction
Prashant Kishor, the founder of Jan Suraaj, strongly condemned the killing, saying that party representatives were already en route to Mokama to monitor the situation closely.
“We have been informed that Dularchand Yadav ji was shot. The overwhelming public support, even in the rain, shows that the people have made up their minds for change. Fifty lakh youth have returned to their roots to rebuild Bihar. A new order will emerge on the 14th.” Kishor declared in his statement, emphasizing his commitment to peaceful political reform.
Opposition Leaders Condemn the Violence
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav condemned the violence, calling it a dangerous sign for democracy during elections.
“Violence during elections is unacceptable. Even with a code of conduct in force, people are roaming with weapons. Dular Chand Yadav’s killing in Mokama is proof of Bihar’s deteriorating law and order. The Prime Minister must open his eyes to the people’s anger. Those in power are scared of losing.”
Tejashwi also made a direct statement to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “Tejashwi ki umra kachchi hai lekin zubaan pakki hai, Pradhan Mantri ji. You talk about events from 30 years ago, but what about what happened 30 minutes ago? The people of Bihar will give you their answer.”
Security Heightened as Bihar Awaits Polls
As the political war of words continues, the state police have increased patrolling and intelligence surveillance in Mokama and surrounding areas. The government has assured swift justice for the victim’s family and promised to maintain law and order as Bihar heads into the crucial Assembly elections.
This tragic incident underlines the pressing need for peaceful, issue-based politics in Bihar, where election-time violence continues to haunt the democratic spirit of the state.
