Gary Neville Backs Arsenal to Win 2026-27 Premier League Title After Bruno Guimaraes Signing

Gary Neville has backed Arsenal to win the 2026-27 Premier League title, with the Manchester United legend highlighting the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes as a potentially decisive addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Arsenal completed the signing of Guimaraes from Newcastle United on August 8 for a reported £75 million transfer fee, with the Brazilian midfielder agreeing to a four-year contract.

Neville was already backing Arsenal to retain their Premier League crown, but he believes Guimaraes’ arrival has made the Gunners even stronger heading into the new campaign.

Speaking on The Overlap, Neville said:

“I would have backed Arsenal for the Premier League anyway but I think the Bruno Guimaraes signing just secures the title for Arsenal.”

He also praised the midfielder’s personality, leadership and quality, describing the transfer as a major signing for the north London club.

Gary Neville impressed by Bruno Guimaraes signing

Guimaraes arrives at Arsenal after four highly productive seasons with Newcastle United. During his time at St James’ Park, the midfielder made 195 appearances across all competitions, scoring 31 goals and providing 32 assists.

The 28-year-old also played an important role in Newcastle’s progress, helping the club return to the UEFA Champions League and contributing to their Carabao Cup success last season.

For Arsenal, his arrival adds another experienced and competitive presence to the midfield. Guimaraes is capable of contributing defensively while also helping his team progress the ball and control the tempo of matches.

Neville particularly highlighted the Brazilian’s character and personality, suggesting that his influence could extend beyond his technical ability.

“I love him, he’s a massive, massive character and personality. I think that’s a massive addition,” Neville said.

The former Manchester United defender also described Guimaraes as a brilliant player and labelled the £75 million deal a major piece of business for Arsenal.

Arsenal strengthened after winning the Premier League

Arsenal enter the 2026-27 campaign as defending Premier League champions after ending a 22-year wait for the English top-flight title last season.

Rather than resting on that achievement, Arteta and the Arsenal hierarchy have continued to strengthen the squad during the summer transfer window.

The club have added players including Christos Tzolis, Illan Meslier and Guimaraes, giving Arteta additional options as Arsenal prepare to defend their crown and compete across multiple competitions.

Guimaraes could be particularly important because of the demands placed on Arsenal’s midfield throughout a long season. His experience in high-pressure matches and ability to contribute in different phases could give Arteta greater tactical flexibility.

Arsenal reportedly targeting Ezri Konsa

Arsenal are also reportedly looking to strengthen their defense further, with Aston Villa centre-back Ezri Konsa linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

According to reports cited in the original report, Arsenal are expected to make a move for Konsa for around £51 million.

Adding another established defender would provide Arteta with increased depth and competition at the back, particularly with Arsenal expected to compete domestically and in Europe.

Arsenal interested in Juventus star Kenan Yildiz

The Gunners are reportedly not finished with their summer recruitment either. Arsenal are exploring a potential move for Juventus winger Kenan Yildiz.

The Turkey international is reportedly valued at around £85 million, with Arsenal said to be keen on bringing him to north London.

Yildiz has impressed during his time at Juventus, recording 27 goals and 21 assists in 131 appearances across all competitions over the past three seasons.

Arsenal’s interest could be linked to their desire to add more attacking quality following the arrival of Tzolis. The club had previously been linked with Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior, but those plans reportedly became unrealistic after the Brazilian committed his future to Los Blancos with a new contract.

Yildiz has subsequently emerged as a potential alternative, although any deal would likely require a significant financial investment.

Could Bruno Guimaraes make Arsenal title favourites?

Neville’s comments underline the confidence surrounding Arsenal after their title-winning campaign and an ambitious summer transfer window.

Guimaraes brings Premier League experience, leadership and technical quality to an already strong squad. His ability to influence games from midfield could become particularly valuable during difficult matches when Arsenal need greater control and intensity.

However, winning the Premier League again will still require consistency across an entire season. Arsenal will face competition from several established challengers, and injuries, fixture congestion and performances in Europe could all influence the title race.

For Neville, though, the addition of Guimaraes has taken Arsenal to another level. The former Manchester United star believes the Brazilian’s arrival could be the final piece that makes the reigning champions favourites to retain their crown.
