Mayank Agarwal Joins Durham for County Championship Season Run-In

Mayank Agarwal is the latest Indian cricketer to make the trip to the United Kingdom for county cricket, joining Durham for the remainder of the County Championship season.

The 35-year-old Karnataka batter has not represented India since 2022 but continues to remain active in first-class cricket. Durham have four County Championship matches remaining this season, giving Agarwal an opportunity to make an impact during the final phase of the campaign.

Durham head coach Ryan Campbell expressed his delight at securing Agarwal’s services for the crucial run-in.

“We are delighted to have Mayank joining us for our County Championship run-in,” Campbell said.

Campbell explained that Durham needed an experienced international batter after David Bedingham returned to South Africa ahead of the country’s international red-ball season.

He also praised Agarwal’s first-class record and highlighted the batter’s potential contribution as Durham target a return to Division One.

Agarwal’s International Career

Mayank Agarwal represented India in 21 Tests and five ODIs. During his Test career, he scored four centuries and established himself as a dependable top-order batter during his international appearances.

However, Agarwal has not played for India since 2022 and is currently outside the national team’s plans. His move to county cricket provides another opportunity to compete in first-class conditions and continue his career at a high level.

The Karnataka batter has maintained a strong record in domestic cricket, and Durham will hope his experience can strengthen their batting line-up during the decisive stage of the season.

Carse was recently pictured handcuffed in Derby while reportedly celebrating Durham’s victory over Derbyshire alongside Ben Stokes and Matthew Potts. He was later released without charges.

Following the incident, Carse was left out of England’s squad for the second Test against Pakistan, although he had been part of the squad for the first two Tests. He had been allowed to play for Durham because he was not expected to feature in England’s playing XI for the first Test at Headingley.

Carse subsequently played for Durham against Gloucestershire. Durham won that match by 10 wickets, with Carse taking four wickets and contributing 20 runs in the first innings.
