Nick Wright Slams Aaron Rodgers Over Dr. Fauci Comments and COVID-19 Controversy

Aaron Rodgers has sparked another wave of debate after criticizing Dr. Anthony Fauci during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, with FS1 analyst Nick Wright strongly pushing back against the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback.

Rodgers recently criticized Fauci for repeatedly invoking his Fifth Amendment rights during a Senate hearing. The four-time NFL MVP used the situation to question Fauci’s willingness to answer questions under oath.

“I’m gonna plead the 5th,” Rodgers said. “Like that absolute coward Tony Fauci. Absolute coward. Are you kidding me? What are you scared of Tony? I thought you were science?”

Wright argued that Rodgers’ latest comments were connected to the quarterback’s controversial history during the COVID-19 pandemic. The FS1 analyst claimed Rodgers had portrayed himself as someone who suffered for taking an unpopular position, while Wright believes the circumstances were different.

“Aaron has created this fake universe of martyrdom where he took a stand no one else was willing to take,” Wright said. “He paid (a) heavy price for it. That’s not what happened.”

Wright then criticized Rodgers over his previous comments regarding his vaccination status, arguing that the quarterback deliberately used ambiguous language instead of directly addressing the issue.

“Aaron got criticized because he lied without directly lying, knew he was doing it, and people didn’t like that,” Wright added.

He further argued that Rodgers could have openly defended his position instead of using wording that allowed the controversy to continue.

Aaron Rodgers Previously Addressed His COVID-19 Vaccination Controversy

Rodgers faced widespread criticism during the COVID-19 pandemic after revealing that he was not vaccinated despite previously saying he had been “immunized.” He later acknowledged that he had misled people regarding his vaccination status.

The Steelers quarterback defended his decision not to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and said he had pursued alternative treatments at the time.

Rodgers Says He Does Not Care About the Criticism

Despite the renewed criticism surrounding his comments about Fauci, Rodgers said he is not concerned about what his critics think of him.

“I don’t care about the criticism from people like that,” Rodgers said. “Most people have made up their mind about me, so it doesn’t matter what I say.”

Rodgers is preparing for his second season with the Pittsburgh Steelers after signing a one-year contract with the franchise earlier this offseason. The veteran quarterback will now look to keep the focus on football as Pittsburgh prepares for the upcoming NFL season.
