The gruesome murder of 50-year-old Indian national Chandra Nagamallaiah in Dallas, Texas has sparked outrage in the U.S. and India. The victim was reportedly decapitated in front of his wife and young child at the Downtown Suites motel, where both he and the accused were employed.
Trump’s Response
Reacting to the incident, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a sharp statement on his Truth Social account. “Chandra Nagamallaiah was brutally beheaded by an illegal alien from Cuba who should never have been in our country,” Trump said, describing the victim as a “well respected person in Dallas.”
He blamed the previous Biden administration for releasing the suspect despite his criminal history. “This individual was previously arrested for terrible crimes, including child sex abuse, grand theft auto, and false imprisonment, but was released back into our homeland under incompetent Joe Biden because Cuba did not want such an evil person in their country,” Trump alleged.

He added: “The time for being soft on these illegal immigrant criminals is OVER under my watch.”
Accused Identified as Cuban National
The suspect has been identified as Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 37, a Cuban national. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), he had been released during the Biden administration after Cuba refused to accept him due to his criminal record. Public records reveal Cobos-Martinez’s history of crimes in Houston, Florida, and California.
Details of the Attack
The attack occurred on September 10 inside the Dallas motel where both men worked. According to the arrest affidavit, Cobos-Martinez became enraged when Nagamallaiah asked a female colleague to translate his request regarding the use of a broken washing machine.
“Video shows the suspect then exited the motel room and produced a machete from his person and started cutting and stabbing the complainant multiple times,” the affidavit states. Surveillance footage captured Nagamallaiah fleeing across the motel parking lot while being chased and repeatedly attacked.
Witnesses said Nagamallaiah tried to reach the motel office, where his wife and child were waiting, but Cobos-Martinez caught up with him and beheaded him despite desperate attempts to stop the assault. The affidavit further states that the accused kicked the severed head into the parking lot before placing it in a garbage bin.
Cobos-Martinez was arrested shortly afterward, still covered in blood and holding the machete. During questioning, he admitted to the murder.
Trump Vows Harshest Punishment
Trump reiterated that his administration, along with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Border Czar Tom Homan, was committed to “making America safe again.”
“We will pursue this criminal to the fullest extent of the law. He will face first-degree murder charges,” Trump said.
Community Shock and Outrage
The brutal killing has shaken the Indian-American community in Dallas and beyond. Community leaders have called for justice and stricter immigration enforcement, while social media platforms have been flooded with tributes to Nagamallaiah and condemnations of the crime.
The case is expected to become a flashpoint in U.S. debates on immigration and public safety, especially as the presidential election season intensifies.
