Beth Mooney’s 57 Powers Trent Rockets to Eight-Wicket Win Over Welsh Fire in The Hundred Women’s 2026

Trent Rockets registered a dominant eight-wicket victory over Welsh Fire in the 11th match of The Hundred Women’s Competition 2026 at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on Tuesday. Chasing a target of 130, the Rockets reached 132/2 with 17 balls remaining, thanks to an explosive innings from Australian opener Beth Mooney and an unbeaten cameo from Nat Sciver-Brunt.

After suffering two low scores earlier in the tournament, Mooney returned to form in spectacular fashion. The left-hander blasted 57 runs off just 34 balls, reaching her half-century in only 27 deliveries. She shared a crucial 73-run opening partnership with Sophia Dunkley, putting the chase firmly in Trent Rockets’ control.

Dunkley played the perfect supporting role before Nat Sciver-Brunt, returning after recovering from a calf injury, ensured there were no late hiccups. The England all-rounder remained unbeaten on 37 and sealed the victory with a towering six.

Welsh Fire struggle after slow Powerplay

Earlier, Welsh Fire posted 129/3 from their 100 balls but never looked in complete control after a sluggish start. Openers Georgia Voll and Ella McCaughan managed only 15 runs during the Powerplay, leaving the middle order with plenty of work to do.

Sophie Devine top-scored with 38, while Freya Kemp anchored the innings with an unbeaten 36 off 29 balls. However, neither batter managed to accelerate consistently against Trent Rockets’ disciplined bowling attack.

Australian bowlers Kim Garth and Samantha Bates kept things tight with the new ball, while young pacer Charley Phillips impressed on her tournament debut. Phillips claimed 2 wickets for 17 runs, dismissing both Georgia Voll and Sophie Devine to restrict Welsh Fire’s scoring.

Beth Mooney reflects on match-winning knock

After receiving the Meerkat Match Hero award, Mooney said the team always believed one strong partnership would be enough to chase the target.

“We knew that one big partnership was probably going to win that game. When you’re chasing a total like that it’s pretty good to break the back of the chase as early as you can and thankfully Dunks and I could do that. I got a little bit lucky but I got a few away as well,” Mooney said.
