The Boston Bruins staged an impressive comeback to defeat the Anaheim Ducks 4-2 on Friday, October 17, overcoming an early two-goal deficit to extend their winning streak to four games. Elias Lindholm scored the decisive goal in the third period, capping a two-point performance as Boston completed its comeback on the road.
David Pastrnak contributed a goal and an assist, while Frederic Brunet scored his first career NHL goal and Matthew Poitras added an insurance marker. The Bruins scored four unanswered goals, including three on the power play, to turn the game around and secure another victory.
Bruins Rally From 2-0 Down Against Ducks
The Ducks appeared to be in control after scoring twice late in the first period. Tim Washe opened the scoring with 37.3 seconds remaining, sending a long-range shot from the point through traffic and past Bruins goaltender Michael DiPietro.
Anaheim doubled its advantage just 21 seconds later. Beckett Sennecke finished a three-way passing play to score his fifth goal of the season, giving the Ducks a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
However, Boston responded in the middle frame and gradually took control of the contest. The Bruins’ power play proved particularly effective, helping them erase the deficit before Lindholm delivered the decisive goal in the final period.
Frederic Brunet Scores First Career NHL Goal
Frederic Brunet gave Boston a crucial breakthrough at 3:15 of the second period. The defenseman, selected by the Bruins in the fifth round of the 2022 NHL Draft, fired a long shot from the blue line that found its way through a crowded area and into the net.
The goal cut Anaheim’s lead to 2-1 and gave Boston renewed momentum. Brunet’s first career NHL goal marked an important milestone as the Bruins continued their push for an equaliser.
Boston eventually drew level early in the third period through Pastrnak, setting the stage for Lindholm to complete the comeback.
David Pastrnak Ties the Game and Makes Bruins History
Pastrnak scored the equaliser at 3:26 of the third period while Boston had a power-play advantage. He capitalised on a loose puck during a scramble in front of the Anaheim net, recording his third goal of the campaign and bringing the score to 2-2.
The goal also carried historical significance for the Bruins forward. Pastrnak moved into sole possession of fourth place on Boston’s all-time goals list with his 423rd career tally, surpassing Brad Marchand.
He now trails only Johnny Bucyk, who scored 545 goals for Boston, Phil Esposito with 459 and Patrice Bergeron with 427. Pastrnak’s latest milestone added another highlight to an already productive performance.
Elias Lindholm Scores the Game-Winning Goal
With the game tied in the third period, Lindholm gave Boston its first lead at 8:18. The forward finished a setup from Pavel Zacha with a tap-in goal during a power play, putting the Bruins ahead 3-2.
Zacha’s assist was one of two he recorded in the contest. James Hagens also finished with two assists, contributing to Boston’s offensive comeback.
Poitras then added an insurance goal approximately eight minutes later. He completed a two-on-one rush after receiving a pass from Hagens, extending the Bruins’ advantage to 4-2 and putting the result beyond Anaheim’s reach.
Michael DiPietro Earns First NHL Victory
Bruins goaltender Michael DiPietro made 25 saves to secure his first NHL victory in his sixth career game and fourth start. His performance helped Boston recover from the Ducks’ early scoring burst and maintain its advantage after taking the lead.
Anaheim goaltender Lukas Dostal stopped 18 shots but was unable to prevent the Bruins from scoring four consecutive goals.
Bruins Power Play Makes the Difference
Special teams played a decisive role in the outcome. Boston converted three of its four power-play opportunities, while Anaheim failed to score on all five of its chances with the extra skater.
The Bruins’ ability to capitalise on their opportunities helped transform a two-goal deficit into a two-goal victory. Anaheim also struggled to generate offence late in the game, managing just four shots on goal in the third period.
The Ducks’ inability to respond after Boston tied the score proved costly, particularly as the Bruins gained momentum and took advantage of their power-play chances.
Bruins Extend Winning Streak as Ducks Suffer Second Straight Loss
The 4-2 victory extended Boston’s winning streak to four games and highlighted the team’s ability to recover from difficult situations. Contributions from Lindholm, Pastrnak, Brunet and Poitras helped the Bruins overcome their slow start and finish strongly.
For Anaheim, the defeat marked a second consecutive loss after the team surrendered its early two-goal advantage. Despite strong contributions from Washe and Sennecke in the opening period, the Ducks could not maintain their momentum.
Boston’s comeback, combined with its power-play efficiency and DiPietro’s 25 saves, provided a convincing finish to a game that initially appeared to be going Anaheim’s way.
