Caleb Williams could become the subject of a stunning NFL trade scenario in 2027, according to former New York Jets scout Daniel Kelly. While there is currently no indication that the Chicago Bears are planning to move their quarterback, Kelly has identified the Baltimore Ravens as a potential landing spot.
Williams is entering his third season in Chicago after making significant progress during the 2025 campaign. The former No. 1 overall pick is expected to remain a central part of Ben Johnson’s offense in 2026.
Despite that positive trajectory, Kelly believes a future trade could eventually take place.
Former NFL Scout Predicts Caleb Williams Trade to Ravens
Kelly, who previously worked as a scout for the New York Jets, shared his prediction on social media while looking ahead to the 2027 NFL season.
“As a former NFL Scout, If I had to guess at this point where Caleb Williams will get traded in 2027, I would guess the Ravens,” Kelly wrote on X.
The prediction would represent one of the biggest quarterback moves imaginable if it eventually happened. Williams was selected by Chicago with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and the Bears have invested heavily in developing him as their franchise quarterback.
Why a Ravens Move Looks Unlikely Right Now
Although Kelly’s prediction has generated discussion, a move to Baltimore currently appears difficult to envision.
The Ravens already have Lamar Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP, under center. Jackson remains one of the league’s most dynamic quarterbacks and is expected to lead Baltimore’s offense again in 2026.
Unless the Ravens’ situation changes dramatically, there would be little obvious reason for the franchise to pursue another established starting quarterback such as Williams.
For the Bears, meanwhile, Williams remains the centerpiece of their rebuilding project. A trade would require a significant change in circumstances between now and 2027.
Caleb Williams Took a Major Step Forward Under Ben Johnson
Williams’ development during the 2025 season is one of the biggest reasons a potential trade seems difficult to imagine at this stage.
After struggling with protection issues during his rookie campaign, Williams showed considerable improvement under Johnson in 2025. He helped Chicago finish with an 11-5 record and guided the Bears to their first postseason victory in more than a decade.
Williams finished the season with 3,942 passing yards and 27 touchdowns, providing Chicago with encouraging evidence that its young quarterback could develop into a long-term franchise player.
NFL Analyst Praises Williams’ Development
The quarterback’s progress has also been noticeable during his preparation for the 2026 season.
NFL analyst Carmen Vitali highlighted a major difference between Williams’ training camp preparation in 2025 and his work this year, particularly regarding his command of the offense.
Vitali described Williams’ previous training camp as difficult to watch and suggested that he sometimes struggled with communicating the offense correctly.
However, she believes the quarterback has looked dramatically different this year.
“Flash forward to this year — it is night and day. … The decisiveness of Caleb Williams is palpable,” Vitali said.
That improvement could be particularly important as Williams enters another season working within Johnson’s offensive system.
Caleb Williams Did Not Start Bears’ Preseason Opener
Williams did not start Chicago’s preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns over the weekend. Instead, backup quarterback Tyson Bagent opened the game for the Bears.
That decision does not necessarily indicate a change in Chicago’s quarterback hierarchy, as teams frequently manage playing time during the preseason to protect key players and evaluate their depth.
Williams is still expected to play a major role in Chicago’s plans for the 2026 regular season.
Could Caleb Williams Really Leave Chicago in 2027?
At this point, Kelly’s prediction should be viewed as speculation rather than an indication of an actual trade plan. There is no reported agreement or confirmed discussion suggesting that Williams is headed out of Chicago.
The quarterback’s future will likely depend on how he performs over the next two seasons, how the Bears progress under Johnson and whether the franchise remains committed to building around its young quarterback.
If Williams continues improving and Chicago remains competitive, a trade would become even harder to justify. But if circumstances change dramatically, Kelly’s prediction could become an intriguing storyline heading into the 2027 NFL offseason.
