Dale Steyn CSK coaching role has emerged as a potential storyline ahead of the IPL 2027 season after the South African fast-bowling great indicated that he could consider an approach from Chennai Super Kings.

During an interactive Q&A session on X on Thursday, August 13, Steyn was asked by a fan whether he would be open to working with the five-time IPL champions. The former South Africa pacer replied, “Yes possibly.”

The 41-year-old has previous experience in the IPL coaching setup. Steyn served as the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad during the 2022 and 2023 seasons before stepping away from the position ahead of the 2024 edition for personal reasons.

The speculation surrounding Steyn comes after CSK and Stephen Fleming ended their long-standing association in July 2026 by mutual agreement.

Fleming’s relationship with Chennai Super Kings dates back to the inaugural IPL season in 2008. After initially playing for the franchise, he became head coach ahead of IPL 2009 and remained in the role through the 2026 season.

Under Fleming’s leadership, CSK became one of the most successful teams in IPL history. The franchise won five IPL titles and reached the final on 10 occasions during his tenure.

Fleming also worked closely with MS Dhoni throughout the franchise’s most successful years. Their leadership partnership became one of the defining features of CSK’s IPL era.
