Drake Maverick originally joined WWE in 2017 and became a prominent figure on the 205 Live brand. He later became associated with Authors of Pain, Akam and Rezar, while also taking on the role of 205 Live General Manager.

Maverick was subsequently drafted to SmackDown in 2019 and remained a familiar personality across WWE programming. His most notable accomplishments included winning the WWE 24/7 Championship.

During WWE’s vlog documenting Nick Aldis’ preparations for his SummerSlam match, Maverick was briefly shown backstage embracing Aldis. The appearance marked his first WWE programming appearance in several years.

A fan shared the footage on X, prompting an emotional response from Aldis, who highlighted how happy he was to have his longtime friend present for the occasion.

The relationship between Nick Aldis and Drake Maverick dates back to their days on the British independent wrestling scene and their time in TNA Wrestling.

Before joining WWE, both wrestlers built their reputations in the British wrestling circuit. They later worked together in TNA, where Aldis competed under the ring name Magnus.

Maverick, who was known as Rockstar Spud during that period, was part of Team Dixie Carter and frequently became involved in Aldis’ matches. He helped Aldis retain the TNA World Heavyweight Championship on several occasions.

Their reunion at SummerSlam therefore carried additional significance, bringing together two wrestlers who had shared an important chapter of their careers before eventually becoming established figures in WWE.

“Everyone talks about this and says there’s nothing that replicates working in the ring, and it really is true. I’ve been doing the most intense conditioning workouts for the last couple of weeks to get ready, and I’ve genuinely never trained that hard in my whole life.”

Aldis admitted that the physical demands of the match quickly reminded him how different wrestling inside the ring was compared with regular conditioning workouts.

“Still, just four minutes in, I was like, ‘Oh my God.’”

Aldis’ appearance inside the squared circle was warmly received by fans, particularly because he had spent much of his WWE career working in an administrative and leadership role rather than as an active wrestler.
