MJF Takes Shot at Roman Reigns With ‘One True Champion’ OTC Comment

MJF Roman Reigns comparisons have emerged after the AEW star reacted to a fan using the acronym “OTC” for his new “One True Champion” moniker.

MJF has returned to AEW programming following a month-long absence after losing the AEW World Championship to Kenny Omega at Dynamite: Beach Break. Since his comeback, the former champion has quickly inserted himself back into the title picture.

MJF Rejects ‘OTC’ Acronym

MJF returned at Grand Slam Mexico and immediately made his intentions clear. He attacked Andrade, referred to Kenny Omega as a paper champion and announced his goal of winning the Men’s Casino Gauntlet contract at All In.

On the latest episode of AEW Dynamite, MJF faced Mike Bailey and Nick Wayne in a triple-threat qualifier. The winner earned the No. 2 position in the upcoming Casino Gauntlet match, and MJF emerged victorious.

Since returning, MJF has repeatedly referred to himself as the “One True Champion.” He even instructed ring announcer Justin Roberts to introduce him using the nickname before his qualifier.

When a wrestling fan shortened the phrase to “OTC” on X, MJF appeared to object because the same acronym is closely associated with Roman Reigns’ “Original Tribal Chief” nickname.

“Never acronym the one true champion,” MJF wrote.

The response has naturally led to speculation that MJF was making a subtle reference to Reigns, although he did not directly mention the WWE star in his post.

Why the OTC Reference Matters

Roman Reigns has been strongly associated with the “Original Tribal Chief” identity, commonly abbreviated as OTC, during his WWE run. The nickname became an important part of his character following his time as The Tribal Chief.

MJF’s insistence that his “One True Champion” nickname should not be shortened to OTC can therefore be viewed as another example of his willingness to create competitive or provocative references involving WWE.

MJF Also Takes Aim at Paul Wight

MJF’s latest comments about Roman Reigns were not the only notable social media interaction involving the AEW star.

During his triple-threat match against Mike Bailey and Nick Wayne, WWE legend Paul Wight, formerly known as Big Show, was working on commentary.

At one point, Bailey crashed toward the commentary area and MJF asked Wight for some water. Wight ignored the request and instead gave water to Bailey, something that clearly did not sit well with MJF.

MJF later addressed the incident on X and criticized the veteran wrestler.

“He’s as tall as he is RUDE! RESPECT YOUR CHAMPION!” MJF wrote.

MJF’s Path Toward All In 2026

After winning his qualifier, MJF is now positioned for the Men’s Casino Gauntlet at All In 2026. Winning the match would give him a World Title opportunity and potentially put him on a collision course with AEW World Champion Kenny Omega.

MJF’s return has already added another major storyline to AEW’s world-title picture. Whether he ultimately wins the Casino Gauntlet contract remains to be seen, but his recent comments suggest that the “One True Champion” intends to remain at the center of the AEW title scene.
