Speaking during her on-court interview, the Japanese star revealed that she was determined to remain in London long enough to celebrate her daughter Shai’s birthday, which falls on Thursday.

When asked whether she had been nervous before the match, Osaka responded with an immediate “Yes!” before explaining the emotional reason behind her anxiety.

“Tomorrow’s my daughter’s birthday. I just wanted to be here for longer. I don’t want to make her get on a plane on her birthday,” Osaka said, drawing warm applause from the crowd.
