WWE Women’s Evolve Champion Nikkita Lyons has responded to online claims questioning why she joined WWE, making it clear that assumptions about her appearance do not define her abilities or ambitions in Professional Wrestling.

Lyons addressed the criticism during an appearance on Booker T’s Hall of Fame podcast, where she discussed the expectations surrounding her career, the pressure of being in the public eye and the comments she continues to receive from fans on social media.

The WWE star acknowledged that some people believe she earned her place in the company because of her physical appearance. However, she said she intends to answer those assumptions through her performances and show audiences what she is capable of achieving in the ring.

“Expect the unexpected, first of all. I’m always going to do my best to come with something different, come with something new. You’re learning while I’m learning. This is a whole evolution happening in front of people’s eyes. But all the little assumptions or whatever, like, ‘She’s just here because of her body. She’s just here because of that.’ You can go ahead and think that, but I’m going to prove to you what I’m really here to do.”

Her comments highlight the challenges female wrestlers can face when their appearance becomes a bigger topic of discussion than their in-ring work. Lyons made it clear that she is focused on developing her wrestling career rather than allowing online criticism to determine how people see her.

Nikkita Lyons opens up about bullying and criticism over her appearance

During the podcast appearance, Lyons also reflected on the negative comments she experienced while growing up in the entertainment industry. She explained that her height, body type and appearance often led to criticism, including comments about whether she fit the expectations of particular roles.

Lyons said she had been 5 feet 8 inches tall since she was 12 years old. At that age, she was already hearing remarks suggesting she was too tall or too thick for certain roles. She also recalled being told to change her hair and that she would never be considered the stereotypical attractive woman.

Those experiences affected her while she was still young, and she said bullying happened both at school and online. Although the online criticism has continued during her career, Lyons believes she has developed the resilience to deal with it.

“There were many struggles growing up in the entertainment industry, especially as a thicker girl. It’s always been like, ‘You’re too tall for this role.’ I’ve been 5’8″ since I was 12 years old. ‘You’re too thick for this role. You should dye your hair. You’ll never be the hot girl.’ All this stuff going in my 12-year-old brain and on. There’s definitely bullying at school, a lot of online bullying, which still happens, but your girl has built that rhino-thick skin now.”

Lyons’ comments offer insight into how long-standing criticism about appearance has affected her. While she continues to face negative remarks on social media, she says she has learned to handle them and remain focused on her professional goals.

Other WWE women’s wrestlers have faced similar fan criticism

Nikkita Lyons is not the only WWE star to speak about the pressure and scrutiny that can come with being a woman in professional wrestling. Several other wrestlers have also been subjected to comments about their bodies, backgrounds and place on the roster.

Nia Jax and Lash Legend are among the names who have faced criticism from fans throughout their careers. Jax, in particular, has been the subject of online claims suggesting that her family connections played a role in her WWE opportunities.

Jax is part of The Bloodline and has had to deal with criticism throughout her time in WWE. Similar scrutiny has also surrounded established stars such as Natalya and Charlotte Flair, showing that comments about a wrestler’s background or perceived advantages are not limited to one performer.

Lyons’ remarks add to the wider conversation about how female wrestlers are judged by audiences. Her response was direct: fans are free to make assumptions, but she intends to demonstrate her abilities through her work and continued development in WWE.

As the current Women’s Evolve Champion, Lyons is continuing her journey in the company while making it clear that she wants her wrestling and performances to define her career.
