Noman Ali Signs Six-Match Lancashire Deal Ahead of Pakistan’s England Test Series

Pakistan left-arm spinner Noman Ali has signed a six-match contract with Lancashire for the remainder of the County Championship campaign. The move keeps the experienced spinner in England, where he will also be available should Pakistan require spin-bowling cover during their three-Test series against England, beginning on August 19 in Leeds.

Noman Ali to Stay Ready for Pakistan Call-Up

The 39-year-old remains in contention for a national recall despite not being included in Pakistan’s initial Test squad for the England tour. Pakistan have instead selected left-arm spinner Ali Usman alongside off-spinner Sajid Khan, but Noman’s presence in England provides the team with an experienced backup option in case of injury or unforeseen circumstances.

Noman enjoyed a remarkable comeback to Pakistan’s Test side during the home series against England in late 2024. After Pakistan lost the opening Test, he claimed 20 wickets across the final two matches to inspire a dramatic 2-1 series victory. However, he later lost his place during Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh, with Ali Usman replacing him in the playing XI.

Veteran Spinner Excited for First County Cricket Experience

Speaking after signing for Lancashire, Noman expressed his excitement about experiencing county Cricket for the first time and representing one of England’s most historic clubs.

“I am looking forward to playing for Lancashire and experiencing county cricket in England for the first time. The County Championship is a great competition and I’m very excited to play at Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground,” Noman said.

He also highlighted the club’s rich history and the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Pakistan legend Wasim Akram, who enjoyed a successful stint with Lancashire.

“Lancashire is one of the biggest clubs in the UK, with so much history and heritage. I am following in the footsteps of a Pakistan hero, Wasim Akram, who played for Lancashire for many years. I’m looking forward to joining my new teammates and doing all I can to make an impact on and off the field,” he added.

Lancashire Add Experienced Spin Option

Lancashire currently sit seventh in Division Two of the County Championship and are aiming to finish the season strongly with an outside chance of earning promotion. The club has relied on homegrown spinners Tom Hartley and Arav Shetty this season, while Liam Livingstone and Australian all-rounder Chris Green have also contributed in spin-bowling roles.

Director of Cricket Mark Chilton welcomed the signing, praising Noman’s experience and red-ball pedigree.

“Noman is a hugely skilful and experienced spin bowler, and we’re delighted to bring him to Emirates Old Trafford for the County Championship run-in. His record speaks for itself with the red ball, particularly for Pakistan over the last couple of years, and we believe his experience and know-how will make a real difference in these final six Championship games,” Chilton said.
