Tim Seifert delivered a sensational performance in the final as Manchester Super Giants defeated Trent Rockets by five wickets at Lord’s on August 16 to claim their maiden The Hundred Men’s Competition title.

The New Zealand opener smashed 72 runs from just 38 deliveries, including seven sixes and eight fours, to put Manchester Super Giants in control of the chase. Despite a late scare, Liam Dawson sealed the historic victory with a six off the final three balls.

Tim Seifert destroys Trent Rockets bowling attack

Manchester Super Giants began their chase aggressively, with Seifert immediately putting pressure on the Trent Rockets bowlers. He opened his account with a boundary against Mohammed Amir before striking the experienced pacer for a six and another four.

Seifert continued his assault after the early dismissal of Paul Walter and reached his half-century in only 23 balls. His fifty became the fastest in a Men’s Hundred final.

The right-handed batter eventually departed for a brilliant 72 off 38 balls, having hit seven sixes and eight fours. His innings gave Manchester Super Giants the platform they needed to chase down 159.

Jos Buttler provides another important cameo

Captain Jos Buttler also contributed during the run chase after taking over leadership duties following Aiden Markram’s departure from the tournament for personal reasons.

Buttler scored 23 runs from 14 deliveries and struck Calvin Harrison for two consecutive sixes before being caught at long-off.

His quick cameo kept the required run rate under control and helped Manchester Super Giants remain ahead of the chase.

Mohammed Amir creates late drama

With Manchester Super Giants needing 25 runs from 25 deliveries, Trent Rockets brought Mohammed Amir back into the attack. The experienced Pakistan pacer responded by removing the dangerous Seifert.

Amir then dismissed Heinrich Klaasen and Michael Bracewell to bring Trent Rockets back into the contest. The final stages suddenly became tense as Manchester Super Giants needed three runs from the final three balls.

However, Liam Dawson held his nerve and smashed Ben Sanderson for a six to complete a memorable five-wicket victory with two balls remaining.

Noor Ahmad stars with the ball for Manchester Super Giants

Earlier, Manchester Super Giants’ bowlers restricted Trent Rockets to 158/8 after Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bowl.

Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad was particularly impressive, taking three wickets. He dismissed both Finn Allen and Ben Duckett before later removing Tim David.

Aneurin Donald provided Trent Rockets with momentum by scoring 38 from 19 balls, while Lewis Gregory added a quick 32 from 16 deliveries. Mitchell Santner remained unbeaten on 20 from 16 balls as the Rockets finished on 158/8.

Tim Seifert named Player of the Match and MVP

Seifert’s outstanding final performance capped an excellent campaign. He was named both Player of the Match and MVP of the Tournament.

The New Zealand opener finished the competition with 394 runs from 10 innings at an average of 49.25 and a strike rate of 168.37.

He also registered five half-centuries, the most by any batter during the season, and finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament.

Manchester Super Giants finally secure The Hundred crown

The victory marked a historic achievement for Manchester Super Giants, who secured their first-ever Men’s Hundred title at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Seifert’s explosive innings, Noor Ahmad’s three-wicket haul and Dawson’s final-ball heroics combined to give Buttler’s side a memorable championship triumph.

For Seifert, the final was the perfect way to cap a remarkable tournament and demonstrate why he was ultimately recognized as the competition’s MVP.
