“Whatever it is, Jailer 2 becoming the top industry hit is inevitable. In trade circles, the Rs 800 crore seems like a rounded-off figure. The lifetime collection numbers from Sri Lanka, Europe and other areas do not provide numbers. Only markets like North America, Australia and New Zealand provide actual numbers. If the actual collection of 2.0 is below Rs 700 crore, then Jailer 2 has already crossed the mark; if not, Jailer 2 is right on track to become the all-time grosser of Kollywood,” he said.

His assessment points to the central issue in the record debate: the comparison depends not only on Jailer 2’s current earnings but also on which estimate of 2.0’s lifetime collection is accepted.
