Kavya Maran and Anirudh Ravichander’s Viral Wedding Invitation: Designer Reveals the Brief

The wedding reception invitation of Kavya Maran and music composer Anirudh Ravichander has caught attention on social media for its vintage-inspired design, intricate detailing and understated colour palette. Featuring powder blue, ivory and silver, the invitation reflects an approach that prioritises elegance and lasting appeal over excessive decoration.

Behind the invitation is Ranjani Iyengar, founder of Pink Whistle Man, who handled its creative development and production. In an interview with India Today Digital, Iyengar revealed that the brief from the couple and their families was to create something classic and timeless an invitation that guests might want to preserve as a keepsake.

The design process also involved Kavya closely, with Iyengar describing her as someone who paid particular attention to details.

The invitation’s popularity highlights a broader shift in luxury wedding stationery, where personal taste, thoughtful design and quality materials can matter as much as elaborate presentation.

Why Kavya Maran and Anirudh Ravichander’s wedding invitation stands out

Wedding invitations often feature elaborate illustrations, bold colours, personalised motifs and designs inspired by a couple’s relationship. For Kavya and Anirudh’s invitation, however, the creative direction was more restrained.

Iyengar explained that the intention was to balance visual richness with simplicity, ensuring that the invitation remained elegant without appearing overwhelming.

The central idea was to create a design with keepsake value. Rather than treating the invitation as something guests would look at once and discard, the team wanted it to be memorable enough to retain.

“We wanted to focus on something very classic, very elegant and timeless, but at the same time, something that has a keepsake value, something that people are going to keep with them,” Iyengar told India Today Digital.

Kavya was closely involved as the design evolved, working with Iyengar to shape the final look. The creative process was guided by the preferences of the couple and their families rather than a requirement to make the invitation as elaborate as possible.

The result was a design that relied on its carefully selected colours and details to create a distinctive identity.

Powder blue, ivory and silver define the invitation’s look

One of the most noticeable features of the wedding invitation is its limited colour palette. Powder blue, ivory and silver form the foundation of the design, creating a soft, coordinated appearance that complements its vintage-inspired aesthetic.

The colours and detailing were carried through the invitation box, giving the presentation a consistent visual identity.

For Iyengar, working with just three colours required restraint. She admitted that she usually enjoys experimenting with different shades, making the decision to limit the palette an important part of the creative process.

The approach demonstrates how a limited number of colours can create an elegant result when the tones and details work together.

Instead of introducing multiple decorative elements, the design allows the chosen palette to establish its character. The vintage influence adds a sense of familiarity, while the restrained presentation keeps the invitation from appearing overly ornate.

The invitation was also not conceived as a detailed visual account of the couple’s love story. According to Iyengar, the emphasis remained on creating a classic design incorporating elements the couple liked, rather than building an elaborate theme around their relationship.

She did not reveal the complete contents of the invitation box, noting that those details could not be shared at the time of the interview.

What celebrity clients really want from wedding invitations

Iyengar’s experience working with high-profile clients has given her insight into the preferences shaping luxury wedding stationery. Despite the extravagant celebrations often associated with celebrity weddings, she said many clients favour simplicity over excessive decoration.

Her previous projects include invitations for Radhika Merchant, Alanna Panday, filmmaker Luv Ranjan, director Bejoy Nambiar and cricketer Jaydev Unadkat.

According to Iyengar, clients who regularly encounter lavish designs may prefer something more authentic and understated when making decisions about their own invitations.

“Surprisingly, it’s the simplicity that they go for,” she said, explaining that people accustomed to opulence often return to designs that feel genuine rather than overly elaborate.

For invitation designers, this creates a different kind of challenge. The objective is not simply to produce something expensive-looking or visually dramatic. It is to translate a couple’s personality and preferences into a design that feels distinctive without becoming cluttered.

A limited colour scheme, an unusual illustration or a carefully selected material can sometimes communicate more effectively than a large number of decorative elements.

Kavya and Anirudh’s invitation reflects this philosophy through its restrained palette and emphasis on timeless presentation.

Kritika Kamra and Gaurav Kapur’s invitation shows the power of simplicity

Iyengar also discussed the wedding invitation she created for actor Kritika Kamra and television presenter Gaurav Kapur, highlighting how a relatively simple concept can become memorable through careful execution.

The design featured stick-figure animations created using a frame-by-frame process. Rather than relying on sophisticated techniques simply to make the invitation look impressive, the team focused on developing the animation one frame at a time.

Iyengar compared the process to creating a small Disney film, emphasising the craftsmanship involved in producing the final result.

The design used just two colours, demonstrating that a limited palette and uncomplicated illustrations can still create a personalised invitation.

The example illustrates a central principle in her approach to wedding stationery: originality does not necessarily depend on visual excess. A clear idea, executed thoughtfully, can give an invitation its own identity.

For couples planning their weddings, this approach also offers an alternative to elaborate designs. Personalisation can come from a meaningful illustration, an inventive concept or the way the invitation is presented, rather than from adding more decorative features.

Looking ahead to the upcoming wedding season, Iyengar expects experimentation with materials to remain an important part of invitation design.

Her work has involved materials such as metal, wood, moulded materials and plaster of Paris (POP). These options allow designers to explore how the physical structure, weight and texture of an invitation contribute to the overall experience.

“Tactile invites have a lot of scope to play with,” she said, explaining that materials can help communicate a concept through their appearance and feel.

This approach expands the role of an invitation beyond printed information. The material itself can become part of the design, creating an experience that begins when a guest first handles the package.

How digital invitations are evolving

Digital wedding invitations are also opening up new creative possibilities. Iyengar said she has been experimenting with artificial intelligence alongside hand-drawn artwork, traditional animation and visual effects.

Combining these techniques can offer designers more ways to develop personalised digital invitations while retaining elements of artistic craftsmanship.

Hand-drawn illustrations can provide a distinctive visual style, while animation can bring characters and scenes to life. AI-assisted elements may offer additional creative possibilities when integrated thoughtfully into the design process.

The challenge is to use technology in a way that supports the original concept rather than making the invitation feel generic.

As couples consider both physical and digital formats, the choice increasingly involves more than deciding between a printed card and a message on a phone. Material, animation, illustration and presentation can all contribute to how the invitation reflects the occasion.

Kavya Maran and Anirudh Ravichander’s reported wedding plans

Alongside the interest in their invitation, reports suggest that Kavya Maran and Anirudh Ravichander’s wedding celebrations are being planned as a two-day affair, likely to take place on November 10 and 11.

Greece has been reported as the expected destination, with the celebrations anticipated to include close family members and a select group of friends.

The event is reportedly being planned as an intimate gathering rather than a large-scale celebration. However, the dates, destination and arrangements should be treated as reported details unless formally confirmed by the couple or their representatives.

The invitation has nevertheless generated interest because of its design, offering a glimpse into the aesthetic choices associated with the reported celebrations.

Why the invitation’s design has captured attention

The appeal of Kavya and Anirudh’s wedding invitation lies in the balance between visual detail and restraint. Its powder blue, ivory and silver palette, vintage-inspired appearance and emphasis on keepsake value reflect a design approach that avoids relying solely on extravagance.

Iyengar’s account also offers a broader look at how celebrity wedding stationery is evolving. Rather than assuming that high-profile clients always want the most elaborate option, she says many value simplicity, authenticity and a concept that reflects their personal preferences.

From tactile materials to animated digital designs, wedding invitations continue to offer opportunities for creative experimentation. Yet the guiding principle remains straightforward: the most memorable design is not necessarily the most complicated one.

For Kavya and Anirudh’s invitation, a carefully controlled palette and a timeless aesthetic have helped make the design a talking point online, while the full contents of the invitation box remain undisclosed.
