Ajinkya Rahane Urges India to Back Kuldeep Yadav After Tough Sri Lanka Test

Ajinkya Rahane has thrown his support behind Kuldeep Yadav after the Indian wrist-spinner endured a difficult outing in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle. Kuldeep managed only one wicket across the match and conceded 103 runs from 25 overs.

Ajinkya Rahane Wants India to Give Kuldeep Yadav More Confidence

Rahane, however, believes a single difficult match should not affect the team’s faith in the experienced spinner. He stressed that Kuldeep has repeatedly delivered wickets in important situations and needs confidence from his teammates and management.

“I want Kuldeep Yadav to be given more confidence. He needs the team to stand by him at this point,” Rahane said.

The former India batter acknowledged that bowlers can sometimes struggle to find their rhythm and pointed out that Kuldeep’s limited opportunities in the Test may have contributed to his lack of impact.

Rahane also emphasized Kuldeep’s ability to change games, saying that continued backing could help the spinner regain his confidence and deliver when India need him most.

Manav Suthar’s 10-Wicket Haul Steals the Show

While Kuldeep had an underwhelming outing, Manav Suthar produced one of the biggest performances of the Test. The young left-arm spinner claimed 10 wickets, taking four in the first innings and six in the second.

“The thing I liked the most was the wicket he picked on the very first ball. It is important for you as a bowler to hit the right area on the very first ball,” Rahane explained.

Rahane Advises Suthar to Keep Improving

According to Rahane, the biggest factor will be the nature of the pitch. If the surface offers substantial assistance to seam bowling and has grass covering, India could consider changing their combination.

However, if the conditions remain spin-friendly, Rahane sees little reason for India to make changes after such a convincing victory in the opening Test.

“If there are seaming conditions and not a dry wicket, with some grass on it, then maybe there can be one change based on it. But otherwise, I don’t see any changes for the next Test,” Rahane said.

India’s strong start to the series means Kuldeep Yadav has an opportunity to respond in the second Test. The spinner has already established himself as a match-winning option across formats and has the experience required to bounce back from an ordinary performance.
