Suryansh Shedge has opened up about the emotional moments following his maiden India call-up, revealing that fellow Punjab Kings teammate Arshdeep Singh was among the first to congratulate him. The Mumbai all-rounder said the India pacer’s heartfelt video call remains one of his most cherished memories as he continues to come to terms with representing the national team.

Shedge made his international debut in the second T20I against Ireland after being drafted into the squad as an injury replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy. Although India suffered a 2-0 series defeat, the all-rounder fulfilled his lifelong dream of wearing the India jersey.

Arshdeep Singh’s heartfelt call left Shedge emotional

Speaking to JioHotstar, Shedge revealed that Arshdeep Singh immediately reached out through a video call after his selection was confirmed, sharing his own experiences of earning an India call-up and offering words of encouragement.

“When my selection was confirmed, I received a video call from Arshdeep paaji. He congratulated me and shared his own experience of getting selected. It was a very emotional moment. Even now, it hasn’t fully sunk in yet. It still feels like a dream,” Shedge said.

The youngster admitted that representing India still feels surreal and that he is continuing to process one of the biggest moments of his cricketing career.

Strong IPL 2026 campaign earned India opportunity

Shedge forced his way into the national setup after an impressive debut season with Punjab Kings in IPL 2026. Batting in the lower middle order, the right-handed all-rounder scored 158 runs in seven matches at an average of 39.50 and an outstanding strike rate of 175.56.

His best performance came against Gujarat Titans, where he blasted 57 off just 29 deliveries. Across the tournament, Shedge struck nine fours and 12 sixes, showcasing his explosive finishing ability and earning his maiden India call-up.

With the five-match T20I series against England now underway, the promising all-rounder will be aiming to build on his memorable debut and establish himself as a regular member of India’s white-ball setup.
