Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy has faced criticism after dropping a routine pass from quarterback Shedeur Sanders during practice, with former NFL offensive lineman and three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth taking aim at the veteran receiver.
Jerry Jeudy Drops Pass From Shedeur Sanders
Jeudy was involved in a practice play with Shedeur Sanders on Wednesday when the Browns quarterback found the wide receiver with a routine pass. However, Jeudy failed to secure the catch, allowing the ball to fall incomplete.
The dropped pass quickly drew attention on social media, particularly because Sanders is competing for an important role in Cleveland’s quarterback battle. The mistake also brought renewed scrutiny to Jeudy after an inconsistent 2025 campaign.
Mark Schlereth Takes Aim at Jerry Jeudy
Former Denver Broncos guard Mark Schlereth reacted strongly after seeing footage of the practice mistake. The three-time Super Bowl champion delivered a blunt assessment of Jeudy’s hands.
“His hands are made of feet!” Schlereth wrote while reacting to the video of the Browns wide receiver’s dropped pass.
The comment added to the growing criticism surrounding Jeudy, who will be expected to provide reliable production for Cleveland during the 2026 NFL season.
Chad Ochocinco Also Criticizes Jeudy
Schlereth was not the only former NFL player to criticize Jeudy. Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco also addressed the drop during an appearance on the Nightcap podcast with Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe.
Ochocinco emphasized the importance of securing routine opportunities and expressed frustration with Jeudy’s inconsistency.
“You gotta secure that thing, baby. Secure that thing,” Ochocinco said, while also pointing to Jeudy’s “too many drops.”
Jeudy’s 2025 Season Fell Off
The latest drop comes after Jeudy experienced a significant decline in production during the 2025 season. After enjoying a career-best campaign in his first season with Cleveland in 2024, the wide receiver struggled to maintain that level of performance.
Jeudy finished the 2025 season with 50 receptions for 602 yards, a substantial drop from his previous production.
Jeudy Previously Set Browns Receiving Record
Jeudy had enjoyed an impressive first season with the Browns in 2024. His performances that year helped him set the franchise record for the most receptions in a single season.
That success raised expectations heading into the following campaign, making his subsequent decline particularly noticeable. Cleveland will now hope that Jeudy can rediscover his best form before the regular season begins.
Jeudy’s Starting Role Could Be Under Threat
Jeudy’s place in Cleveland’s starting lineup could face additional pressure during the 2026 season. Rookie wide receivers KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston have reportedly impressed during training camp.
The emergence of the young receivers could increase competition for playing time and make every practice opportunity more important for Jeudy.
Shedeur Sanders Quarterback Battle Adds More Pressure
The dropped pass also does not help Shedeur Sanders as he competes for the Browns’ starting quarterback position. Reliable chemistry between a quarterback and his receivers is crucial during training camp, particularly when players are fighting for roster spots and starting roles.
With the 2026 season approaching, Jeudy will have an opportunity to put the criticism behind him by producing consistently and establishing himself as one of Cleveland’s most dependable offensive weapons.
