Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has officially revoked the three-year ban imposed on former India fast bowler S. Sreesanth, more than a year after disciplinary action was taken over his controversial remarks against the state body. The decision was approved during a special general body meeting after Sreesanth tendered an unconditional apology.
The former India pacer had been suspended for allegedly making false and defamatory statements against the KCA during the controversy surrounding Sanju Samson‘s omission from India’s Champions Trophy squad.
KCA lifts suspension after Sreesanth’s apology
In an official statement, the Kerala Cricket Association confirmed that Sreesanth’s suspension had been withdrawn following his expression of regret and unconditional apology. The move officially ends the three-year ban that had been imposed ahead of the previous edition of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL).
The decision marks the conclusion of a dispute that had remained one of Kerala cricket’s most closely followed controversies over the past year.
Sanju Samson selection row triggered the controversy
The controversy began in February 2025 when Sreesanth publicly criticised the Kerala Cricket Association after Sanju Samson was left out of Kerala’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad. The former fast bowler questioned the association’s handling of the matter, prompting the KCA to issue a show-cause notice before eventually imposing a three-year suspension.
At the time, the association also referred to Sreesanth’s involvement in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing controversy while defending its disciplinary action. Sreesanth, however, maintained that he had never received formal communication regarding the ban and insisted his comments were made solely in support of fellow Kerala cricketer Sanju Samson.
With the suspension now revoked, Sreesanth is no longer under any disciplinary action from the Kerala Cricket Association, bringing the high-profile dispute to a close.
