Joe Cracknell Leads Middlesex Recovery

Middlesex suffered an early setback after Toby Munt removed Josh de Caires and Ben Geddes in quick succession. The hosts were reduced to 20 for 2 and needed a substantial partnership to rebuild their innings.

Cracknell and Fernandes responded brilliantly, putting together a 202-run stand for the third wicket. Cracknell was the more aggressive batter, using his pull shot effectively and finding boundaries regularly.

The Middlesex batter reached his fifty at almost a run-a-ball before accelerating further. Fernandes also completed his half-century, but his innings ended on 92 after an excellent diving catch by Freddie Price at long-on.

Cracknell continued his assault and reached his maiden white-ball century from 87 balls. He eventually departed for 128 from 112 deliveries, giving Middlesex the platform for a huge total.

After Cracknell’s dismissal, Middlesex continued to attack. Aaryan Sawant struck 25 from just 14 balls, including three consecutive sixes off Freddie Price.

Eathan Bosch then provided a spectacular finish, smashing 33 runs from only 10 deliveries in the final over. His late assault helped Middlesex reach 354 for 8 and placed enormous pressure on Sussex.

Sussex Struggle During the Chase

Sussex’s chase got off to a difficult start as Noah Cornwell and Sebastian Morgan made early inroads. Charlie Tear survived an early chance at gully but could manage only 15 before Morgan had him caught in the slips.

Cornwell then dismissed Dan Ibrahim and Jack Leaning as Sussex lost regular wickets. Oli Carter attempted to rebuild the innings and reached his first half-century of the tournament.

Carter scored 58 from 67 balls before being dismissed by Luke Hollman, leaving Sussex in serious trouble at 120 for 6.

John Simpson and Oli Carter Offer Resistance

Former Middlesex batter John Simpson provided some resistance with a determined 65 from 60 balls. He combined with Price in a 73-run partnership that briefly delayed Middlesex’s victory.

Price contributed 37 from 31 balls, while Toby Munt added a late 26 from 25 deliveries, including three sixes. However, Sussex could not maintain the required scoring rate against a disciplined Middlesex attack.

Morgan claimed the final two wickets to finish with 4 for 46 as Sussex were bowled out for 262 in 43.5 overs.

Middlesex Reach First List A Semi-Final Since 1990

The 92-run victory secured Middlesex’s first List A semi-final appearance since 1990. Their fourth consecutive win also underlined their status as one of the strongest sides in this year’s competition.

Middlesex finished as Group B winners and will host either Lancashire or Durham in Sunday’s semi-final at the same venue.

For Sussex, the defeat brought their One-Day Cup campaign to an end at the bottom of Group B. They managed just one victory in the group stage, while Middlesex now have a major opportunity to reach the final after a remarkable run of form.
