Mitchell Santner Stars as Trent Rockets Beat MI London by Six Wickets in The Hundred

Trent Rockets claimed their sixth consecutive victory in The Hundred Men’s Competition, defeating MI London by six wickets at the Kia Oval and securing a top-three finish.

Chasing 148, Trent Rockets reached 148/4 with 10 balls remaining, thanks to an explosive unbeaten partnership between Mitchell Santner and Tim David.

Mitchell Santner produces match-winning cameo

With the chase in trouble at 46/3 after 30 balls, Santner walked in and transformed the game. The New Zealand all-rounder smashed an unbeaten 52 from just 23 balls, while Tim David contributed an unbeaten 32 from 24 deliveries.

The pair added an unbeaten 78-run fifth-wicket stand to take Trent Rockets comfortably over the finishing line.

The chase had begun poorly for the Rockets. Tom Curran dismissed Finn Allen, while Aneurin Donald scored 23 from 10 balls before being run out. Sam Billings then fell for a duck to a brilliant caught-and-bowled effort from Richard Gleeson.

Ben Duckett added 27 from 26 balls but struggled to accelerate before edging behind off Gleeson. Santner and David then took control, with MI London also dropping three catches in just 13 balls.

Sam Curran’s 72 goes in vain

Earlier, MI London posted 147/7 after being put into bat. Will Jacks provided an explosive start, scoring 39 from 26 balls, while Sam Curran produced the standout batting performance with a career-best 72 from 46 balls.

Curran smashed three sixes in five deliveries and kept MI London competitive despite limited support from the other end.

Trent Rockets produced several outstanding moments in the field. Tim David took a superb catch to dismiss James Vince, while Ben Duckett produced a spectacular direct hit to run out Nicholas Pooran.

Calvin Harrison then completed an excellent one-handed caught-and-bowled to remove Jacks, while Lewis Gregory finished with 2/32 and eventually dismissed Curran.

Trent Rockets need one more win for direct final qualification

The victory guarantees Trent Rockets a top-three finish, but they still need one more win to secure top spot and earn automatic qualification for the Lord’s final.

Rockets will face Southern Brave on Monday in a crucial final league match. A victory would send them directly into the final, while the remaining teams will battle through the knockout stages.

MI London, meanwhile, remain in contention but are likely to need a victory against bottom-placed Birmingham Phoenix on Wednesday at Edgbaston to keep their hopes of reaching Friday’s Eliminator alive.

Speaking after the match, Match Hero Mitchell Santner acknowledged the importance of Monday’s fixture, noting that despite six wins from seven matches, Trent Rockets are not yet guaranteed to finish top.
