Two major overseas signings have boosted the Vitality Blast as Pakistan star Shadab Khan and Australia wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe joined Lancashire and Surrey for the rest of the competition.

Both players could make their debuts for their new counties on Friday as the race for the knockout stages intensifies.

Shadab Khan joins Lancashire

Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan has signed with Lancashire as a replacement for Australian all-rounder Chris Green, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injury.

The 27-year-old is no stranger to county Cricket, having previously represented Sussex and Yorkshire in the Vitality Blast. He is expected to be available for Lancashire’s upcoming clash against Leicestershire at Grace Road.

“I am delighted to sign for Lancashire for the rest of the Vitality Blast. I love playing cricket in England and have really enjoyed my previous stints in the competition,” Shadab said.

He also expressed excitement about representing one of England’s most historic counties.

“Lancashire is one of the biggest clubs in the country, with so much history, and I can’t wait to pull on the shirt at Emirates Old Trafford in front of the home fans.”

Shadab’s impressive T20 record

Shadab arrives with vast experience in the shortest format. The Pakistan international has featured in 124 T20 Internationals, scoring 1,009 runs at a strike rate of 144 while also claiming 123 wickets at an economy rate of 7.4.

His ability to contribute with both bat and ball is expected to strengthen Lancashire’s bid for a deep run in the tournament.

Josh Philippe signs for Surrey

Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe has joined Surrey for the remainder of the Vitality Blast group stage and could stay longer if the club qualifies for the knockout rounds.

Philippe’s arrival comes as cover for England internationals Will Jacks and Sam Curran, who are unavailable due to national team commitments.

Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart welcomed the signing ahead of the club’s match against Sussex.

“Josh Philippe is an excellent top-order batter to bring into the group ahead of Friday’s match at Sussex,” Stewart said.

Philippe excited by Surrey opportunity

The Australian batter described the move as an easy decision, citing Surrey’s stature and the chance to play at The Kia Oval.

“The opportunity to join Surrey was a no-brainer for me. It’s a massive club with some highly skilled players. I want to help the group push for the latter stages of the Vitality Blast,” Philippe said.

“The Kia Oval is one of the great grounds in world cricket, so to be based there for a month will be awesome.”

Boost for Both Counties

With the Vitality Blast entering a crucial phase, Lancashire and Surrey have strengthened their squads with two proven T20 performers. Shadab’s all-round abilities and Philippe’s explosive top-order batting could prove decisive as both counties chase a place in the knockout stages of England’s premier domestic T20 competition.
