
India’s star spinner Shree Charani continued her dream run in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 by scripting history during India’s clash against Bangladesh. The 21-year-old delivered another match-winning performance and became the Indian bowler with the most wickets in a single edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Charani produced a disciplined spell of 2/21 in four overs, maintaining an impressive economy rate of just 5.25. Her efforts played a crucial role in restricting Bangladesh and helped India secure a five-wicket victory.
Charani overtakes Poonam Yadav
Coming into the match, Charani was level with former India spinner Poonam Yadav, who had claimed 10 wickets during the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup. The youngster broke the record when she dismissed Shorna Akter before adding another wicket by removing Nahida Akter.
With those two breakthroughs, Charani’s tournament tally rose to 12 wickets, making her the most successful Indian bowler in a single Women’s T20 World Cup campaign.
