ABF vs BT: Moeen Ali’s Unbeaten Fifty Powers Falcons to 30-Run Win

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons secured an important 30-run victory over Barbados Tridents in the 16th match of the Caribbean Premier League 2026 at North Sound on August 25.

Batting first after losing the toss, Falcons posted 155/5 in their 20 overs before restricting Tridents to 125 all out in 18 overs. Moeen Ali’s unbeaten 56 proved decisive in a low-scoring contest where both batting line-ups struggled to maintain a high scoring rate.

Moeen Ali Rescues Falcons After Difficult Start

Falcons endured an early setback when Rahkeem Cornwall was dismissed from the very first delivery of the match by Daniel Sams.

Amir Jangoo, Karima Gore and Hasan Nawaz then helped rebuild the innings through a series of useful partnerships. However, Falcons struggled to accelerate during the middle overs and appeared set for a modest total.

The momentum changed when Moeen Ali arrived at the crease at No. 5. Although he initially scored cautiously, the experienced all-rounder eventually found his rhythm alongside Shamar Springer.

Moeen Ali’s Stunning Final Over Changes the Match

Moeen and Springer added an unbeaten 75 runs for the sixth wicket from just 41 deliveries, providing Falcons with the late surge they desperately needed.

Springer contributed 19 from 16 balls, while Moeen saved his best hitting for the final over. With Daniel Sams bowling the last six deliveries, Moeen smashed three consecutive sixes to dramatically lift the Falcons total.

The final over produced 20 runs, taking Falcons from a potentially below-par score to a competitive 155/5. Moeen finished unbeaten on 56, including three fours and four sixes.

Barbados Tridents Struggle During Run Chase

Tridents made a difficult start to their chase and reached 45/2 at the end of the powerplay. Alzarri Joseph dismissed Shian Brathwaite and Zachary Carter to put the Falcons in control.

Rivaldo Clarke top-scored for Barbados with 27 runs from 26 balls, while Kevlon Anderson added 22 at a strike rate of 137.50.

However, the Tridents struggled to build substantial partnerships and failed to match the required scoring rate as the innings progressed.

Sherfane Rutherford Falls to Stunning Catch

One of the key moments came when Sherfane Rutherford was dismissed for a first-ball duck. Substitute fielder Anderson Phillip produced an excellent catch in the deep to remove the dangerous batter.

The dismissal further weakened Barbados’ chase and allowed the Falcons’ bowlers to tighten their grip on the contest.

Joshua James Leads Falcons Bowling Attack

Joshua James delivered an outstanding spell for Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, finishing with figures of 3/18. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

Shadab Khan and Sufyan Moqim also contributed with the ball, taking two wickets apiece. Alzarri Joseph claimed two wickets for the Falcons as well, helping the team dismiss Barbados for 125 in just 18 overs.

Falcons Return to Top of CPL 2026 Table

The victory moved Antigua and Barbuda Falcons back to the top of the CPL 2026 standings. However, they have already played seven matches, more than several of the other teams competing near the top of the table.

That means their position could change as the other contenders play their remaining fixtures. Nevertheless, the win provides Falcons with valuable momentum after their heavy defeat against Guyana Amazon Warriors just two days earlier.

Falcons did not produce a dominant batting performance overall, but Moeen Ali’s late acceleration completely changed the complexion of the match.

His unbeaten 56, combined with Springer’s support and an impressive bowling performance led by Joshua James, ensured that Falcons successfully defended 155 and completed a 30-run victory over Barbados Tridents.
