The victory was particularly significant for England as it secured their first Test series triumph since December 2024. The hosts produced another strong all-round performance at Lord’s and maintained control of the contest across the four days.

England’s bowlers were once again central to the victory, putting Pakistan’s batting line-up under sustained pressure during the final innings. Pakistan never looked comfortable while attempting to chase 389 and eventually collapsed before reaching 200.

Ollie Robinson Leads England’s Bowling Attack

Ollie Robinson was the standout performer with the ball. The England seamer finished the match with eight wickets, including an exceptional four-wicket haul for just 24 runs on the fourth day.

Robinson’s overall match figures were an impressive 8-35, underlining his influence on England’s series-clinching victory. He also moved closer to an important personal milestone by claiming his 99th Test wicket when he dismissed Mohammad Rizwan.

Saud Shakeel Misses Out on a Century

Pakistan’s strongest period of resistance came through Saud Shakeel, who produced the highest individual score of the series by either team. Shakeel made 97 before being caught near the boundary, missing a deserved century by only three runs.

His innings was particularly important because Pakistan had struggled badly with the bat throughout the series. The team had still not managed to reach a total of 200 in any of its innings during the series.

Shakeel and Shan Masood Provide Resistance

Pakistan began their chase in disastrous fashion at 14-3, but Shakeel and captain Shan Masood temporarily changed the momentum of the innings.

The pair added 97 runs for the partnership and frustrated England for almost four hours. Their resistance gave Pakistan some hope of extending the contest, but England eventually found the breakthrough they needed.

Robinson ended the partnership when he dismissed Masood approximately an hour before a delayed tea interval. He then quickly removed Mohammad Rizwan to claim his 99th Test wicket.

Imam-ul-Haq’s Injury Adds to Pakistan’s Problems

Pakistan also faced a major disadvantage because Imam-ul-Haq was unable to participate after suffering a left calf injury on the opening day.

Imam never returned to bat after the injury, meaning England needed only 18 wickets rather than the usual 20 to complete the match victory. His absence further reduced Pakistan’s batting options during a difficult chase.

Pakistan’s Batting Struggles Continue

Pakistan’s inability to produce substantial totals has been one of the biggest talking points of the series. Even with Shakeel’s determined effort at Lord’s, the team once again failed to reach 200.

The repeated batting collapses have placed enormous pressure on Pakistan’s bowlers and made it increasingly difficult for the team to compete over four or five days.

For England, the situation was very different. Their bowlers consistently exploited Pakistan’s weaknesses and kept the pressure on throughout the Test.

With the second Test now complete, England have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The result also ends a lengthy wait for England’s next Test series victory after their previous series triumph in December 2024.

Pakistan will now have to regroup quickly before the final match. The third and final Test is scheduled to begin on September 9 in Birmingham.

Third Test Gives Pakistan One Last Chance

Although the series is already decided, the Birmingham Test remains important for both teams. England will look to complete a clean sweep, while Pakistan will be desperate to avoid a 3-0 defeat.

Pakistan’s biggest priority will be improving their batting performance. The team needs greater resilience at the top of the order and more substantial partnerships if it is to challenge England in the final Test.

England, meanwhile, can take considerable confidence from the performances of their bowling attack, particularly Robinson. If their bowlers maintain the same level of discipline, they will enter the final Test as strong favourites to complete a series whitewash.
