Ollie Robinson’s 4/11 Destroys Pakistan as England Dominate Lord’s Test

Ollie Robinson’s four-wicket haul proved decisive as Pakistan suffered a dramatic collapse on the second day of the second Test against England at Lord’s. Robinson returned outstanding figures of 4/11 from 13 overs as Pakistan were dismissed for just 110, giving England a substantial first-innings advantage.

The visitors struggled against an England attack that extracted considerable movement from the Lord’s surface. Jofra Archer provided the early breakthroughs with his pace, while Josh Tongue continued his impressive match with two wickets after contributing an unbeaten 30 earlier in England’s first innings.

Pakistan Collapse for 110 at Lord’s

Pakistan’s innings lasted only 37.2 overs, with Azan Awais emerging as their top scorer with a fighting 46. Saud Shakeel was the only other batter to pass 10, scoring 16, highlighting the extent of Pakistan’s batting struggles.

Archer immediately placed Pakistan under pressure by removing Shan Masood, who was opening in place of the injured Imam-ul-Haq. The England fast bowler produced a full delivery at around 91 mph, which Masood edged through to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.

Tongue then struck just before lunch, dismissing Abdullah Shafique to leave Pakistan two wickets down. The pressure intensified after lunch as Robinson began to dominate the middle and lower order.

Azan Awais Shows Resistance

Amid Pakistan’s collapse, Azan Awais produced one of the few positive performances for the visitors. The opener battled through a difficult spell from Archer and eventually top-scored with 46.

Awais had an early escape when Harry Brook dropped him in the slips on eight. He made the most of the opportunity and remained Pakistan’s main source of resistance.

After facing Archer’s high pace, Awais described the spell as probably the fastest he had faced, while also praising the combination of pace and accuracy.

England Also Lose Early Wickets

Despite their huge advantage, England did not have everything their own way in the second innings. Pakistan’s bowlers made an immediate impact, reducing the hosts to 13/2.

Ben Duckett fell for one after mistiming a half-volley to mid-off, while Jordan Cox was dismissed for 11 after a review confirmed an lbw decision.

England captain Joe Root also found himself under pressure. He was dismissed for 24 by Mohammad Ali, who produced a nip-back delivery that struck Root in front of the stumps.

The dismissal continued an unusual pattern for Root, who has now been dismissed lbw nine times in his last 12 Test innings.

England briefly appeared to be in serious trouble when Brook was also given out lbw immediately after Root’s dismissal. However, Brook reviewed the decision and technology showed that he had made a substantial inside edge.

That reprieve allowed England to stabilize their second innings and maintain control of the match despite Pakistan’s early breakthroughs.

Atkinson and Tongue Build Crucial First-Innings Lead

Earlier in the day, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue had frustrated Pakistan’s bowlers with a valuable tenth-wicket partnership. Their 47-run stand helped England move from a precarious position to a more competitive first-innings total.

Atkinson finished with 45, while Tongue remained unbeaten on 30. Their partnership proved particularly important because Pakistan had earlier threatened to restrict England after veteran seamer Mohammad Abbas produced a superb burst of three wickets for four runs in 16 balls.

England eventually established enough of a lead to put Pakistan under significant scoreboard pressure.

Pakistan Face Uphill Battle at Lord’s

By the time bad light ended play, England had reached 81/3 in their second innings and held an overall lead of 261 runs. With the Lord’s pitch continuing to offer seam movement, Pakistan face a difficult challenge in the remainder of the Test.

England are seeking to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series after their dominant innings-and-103-run victory in the first Test at Headingley.
