England pace prospect Henry Crocombe has confirmed that he will join Surrey ahead of the 2027 county season, bringing an end to his long association with Sussex after developing through the club’s ranks.

The 24-year-old right-arm fast bowler has taken 106 first-class wickets in 48 matches since making his Sussex debut in 2020. During the ongoing 2026 Rothesay County Championship season, Crocombe has claimed 21 wickets at an average of 28.61 in seven matches, helping Sussex remain competitive in the standings.

His impressive performances also earned him a maiden England Lions call-up for the series against South Africa A earlier this year before he joined England’s senior Test squad as cover for Ollie Robinson during the second Test against New Zealand at The Oval.

In white-ball cricket, Crocombe picked up 15 wickets for Sussex in the 2025 Vitality Blast and recently secured a wildcard contract with London Spirit for the 2026 Men’s Hundred.

Crocombe explains Surrey move

Despite Sussex offering him a new three-year contract, Crocombe opted for a fresh challenge at Surrey, with Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Hampshire also reportedly interested in signing the highly-rated pacer.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I will be leaving Sussex Cricket at the end of the season. I grew up at the club and they supported me to play the game I love as a professional.

“I’m excited to start a new challenge at Surrey and the Kia Oval. I believe a move to south London offers me a new challenge and would benefit my own ambitions.

“This decision was not one I have taken lightly, but one I feel will continue to help in my development as a cricketer.

“The club has a rich history of success and are always the team to beat in all formats. I’m looking forward to joining the squad and working with the coaches to take my game to the next level to help bring more trophies to the club,” Crocombe said.

Surrey delighted to secure England prospect

Surrey Director of Men’s Cricket Alec Stewart welcomed the signing, describing Crocombe as one of the country’s brightest fast-bowling talents.

“The opportunity to bring a player of Henry Crocombe’s potential to Surrey was something we were keen to make happen.

“We’re delighted that Henry has chosen to make the move here. It was clear after early conversations that our ambitions aligned.

“We’re looking forward to supporting his progression and seeing him show off his skills in a Surrey shirt,” Stewart said.

Crocombe’s departure represents another setback for Sussex, who continue to deal with off-field challenges after financial issues and a series of player exits over the past year.
