India vs Ireland T20I Series 2026 ended in a major upset as Ireland stunned the Men in Blue with a thrilling one-run victory in the second T20I to complete a 2-0 series whitewash.
The defeat marked India’s first bilateral T20I series loss since August 2023 and ended their incredible run of 12 consecutive series without a defeat. The result also became a difficult start to Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy era in the shortest format.
Ireland defend 154 in dramatic finish
Batting first, Ireland posted a competitive total of 154/8 on the back of Harry Tector’s brilliant half-century. Tector scored 53 runs off 47 balls, providing stability to the Irish innings.
India’s bowling attack performed strongly, with debutant Prince Yadav making an immediate impact by taking three wickets for 22 runs. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh also contributed with important breakthroughs.
India’s chase collapses under pressure
India’s chase started disastrously as Ireland pacer Jai Moondra destroyed the top order. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma were dismissed for golden ducks, while captain Shreyas Iyer also fell early, leaving India struggling at 19/3.
Ishan Kishan’s run-out added more pressure, but Tilak Varma kept India alive with a fighting innings of 55 runs. He received support from Axar Patel and Shivam Dube, but Ireland continued taking wickets at crucial moments.
Late drama but Ireland hold nerve
Harshit Rana’s quick 21 off 10 balls and Prince Yadav’s final-ball six brought India close, but the target remained just out of reach. India finished on 153/9, losing by a single run.
Matt Hollard was Ireland’s star performer with the ball, claiming three important wickets including Tilak Varma and Suryansh Shedge.
Historic series win for Ireland
The victory completed Ireland’s first-ever T20I series win against India after eight previous failed attempts. It was also a huge statement from Ireland against the reigning world champions.
India will now look to regroup ahead of their upcoming five-match T20I series against England starting July 1.
