English television personality Jeremy Clarkson expressed his frustration with england‘s attacking display during their FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage encounter against Ghana, singling out winger Anthony Gordon for criticism during the halftime break.

England struggled to break down a disciplined Ghanaian defense despite dominating possession, prompting Clarkson to suggest tactical changes that could help the Three Lions unlock their opponents.

Clarkson Calls for Rashford and Criticizes Gordon

Speaking during halftime, Clarkson argued that England needed a more direct attacking threat and urged manager Thomas Tuchel to introduce Marcus Rashford in place of Gordon.

“I don’t know who’s this one here? Anthony Gordon, man up, mate, man up. And I don’t know, Rashford may need to come on. Never thought I’d say that in my life, but there we are, I’m calling for Marcus Rashford,” Clarkson said.

Gordon featured for 65 minutes against Ghana and produced a mixed performance. The Newcastle United winger created two chances, registered one shot, and completed 20 of his 22 passes for an impressive 91 percent accuracy rate.

However, his efforts were not enough to convince critics, with some supporters once again questioning his place in England’s starting lineup after a similarly underwhelming display in the opening match against Croatia.

England Fail to Break Ghana’s Resistance

Despite enjoying 79 percent possession and attempting 19 shots, England were unable to find a breakthrough against Ghana’s organized defensive structure. The Black Stars successfully frustrated Thomas Tuchel’s side and secured a valuable point.

Tuchel made several attacking substitutions during the second half. Bukayo Saka replaced Gordon after 65 minutes, while Marcus Rashford entered the contest in the 83rd minute following Noni Madueke’s withdrawal.

England came close to scoring on multiple occasions, with Nico O’Reilly striking the crossbar and Harry Kane missing a promising opportunity. Nevertheless, Ghana held firm to earn a hard-fought 0-0 draw.

Thomas Tuchel Defends England’s Performance

Following the match, England manager Thomas Tuchel urged supporters to remain patient and continue believing in the team despite the disappointing result.

“I know it is a difficult game, and in this case, if one team tries to play and run against that deep block, you don’t find the spaces, and it is difficult for you to create chances. It can be difficult to watch, and it is not as exciting as two teams trying to win in a more open game.”

“We know, we always try to entertain our fans. It was difficult today. I hope they don’t lose belief. It’s a long way to go. Credit to our opponents, and I just feel like I was right; we play in a very difficult group,” Tuchel added.

England Remain Top of Group L

Despite dropping points, England remain at the top of Group L alongside Ghana. The Three Lions will now turn their attention to their final group-stage fixture against Panama on June 27, where a victory could secure qualification for the knockout rounds.

With the FIFA World Cup entering a crucial stage, England will be hoping for a more clinical performance as they look to strengthen their bid for global glory.
