Rahmat Shah breaks Afghanistan captaincy record
The century also made Rahmat only the third Afghanistan captain to score an ODI hundred, following Asghar Afghan and Hashmatullah Shahidi.
More importantly, his 143* surpassed Shahidi’s previous record of 102, scored against India in Chennai earlier in 2026.
Rahmat and Atal put Afghanistan in control
Afghanistan’s chase was built around a huge 201-run partnership for the third wicket between Rahmat Shah and Sediqullah Atal.
Atal narrowly missed out on his second consecutive ODI century, scoring 98 from 112 deliveries before Liam McCarthy dismissed him in the 41st over.
Rahmat then continued the assault alongside Azmatullah Omarzai. Their partnership added another 56 runs, ensuring Afghanistan completed a comfortable six-wicket victory.
