
The family of veteran NFL defensive lineman Calais Campbell is mourning a devastating loss after his mother, Nateal Campbell, was found dead at her Buckhead residence in Atlanta. Authorities have charged Campbell’s brother, Ciarre Campbell, in connection with the incident.
According to reports from the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to the residence on Tuesday afternoon after receiving a request from a concerned family member to conduct a welfare check. Upon entering the home, officers discovered 71-year-old Nateal Campbell unresponsive and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators stated that Ciarre Campbell allegedly barricaded himself inside the property before being taken into custody. Jail records show he was booked into the Fulton County Jail on charges including murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime.
Police Investigation Underway
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Nateal Campbell’s death. Reports indicate that police had previously responded to the same address in April 2026 regarding a possible arson incident. Investigators at the time reportedly noted concerns involving mental health issues connected to an individual at the property.
Law enforcement officials have not yet released additional details regarding the events leading up to the tragic incident.

The Campbell family shared a heartfelt statement expressing grief over the loss of their mother and family matriarch.
“We are devastated to share that the Campbell Family has lost its matriarch, Mrs. Nateal Campbell. While the details of her passing are still being investigated, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with our father, her beloved Chuck, and in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” the family said.
The family also requested privacy as they navigate the difficult period together.
Ravens Offer Support to Calais Campbell
The Baltimore Ravens released a statement offering condolences to Calais Campbell and his family. The organization expressed sadness over Nateal Campbell’s passing and pledged support for the veteran defensive lineman during this challenging time.

Ciarre Campbell will be represented by defense attorney Jay Abt, who has publicly stated that his client intends to contest the allegations. Abt emphasized that the charges remain allegations and that the defense plans to challenge the case through the legal process.
