Richa Ghosh and Mady Villiers Star as Manchester Super Giants Beat Southern Brave

Manchester Super Giants kept their hopes of reaching The Hundred Women’s Competition knockout stage alive with a convincing 27-run victory over Southern Brave in Southampton on August 8, 2026.

Super Giants posted 139/4 before restricting Southern Brave to 112/6 in their 100 balls. The result prevented Brave from securing a top-three qualification spot with one match remaining.

Richa Ghosh and Smriti Mandhana power Super Giants

Batting first on a turning surface, Manchester Super Giants made the most of their opportunities through Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh.

Villiers completed her outstanding spell by taking the wicket of Charli Knott, finishing with 3/17 from her full quota.

Once Villiers completed her spell, Southern Brave’s chase effectively slipped away. Manchester Super Giants bowled with discipline and fielded sharply, restricting Brave to just 112/6.

Remarkably, Southern Brave failed to hit a single boundary during the final 36 balls of their innings.

Super Giants boost qualification hopes

The victory keeps Manchester Super Giants firmly in contention for the knockout stages. They will face SunRisers Leeds in their final fixture on Tuesday, with victory guaranteeing a place in The Hundred Eliminator.

Southern Brave, meanwhile, suffered their first home defeat in eight matches. They now need to beat Trent Rockets on Monday to guarantee their own progression to the knockout stage.

Speaking after the match, Mady Villiers praised the team’s bowling strategy, highlighting the importance of maintaining the right lengths on a surface offering assistance to spin.

Villiers also credited the three spinners for executing their plans effectively and said the larger boundaries allowed the bowlers to attack and put pressure on the Brave batters.
