Police Scotland has confirmed that it has received information concerning a visit by Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor to Balmoral, the King’s private estate in the Scottish Highlands.
The force said active inquiries are ongoing into the time the former royal spent with Epstein, the late convicted sex offender, at the estate. However, police stressed that the investigation remains at a “very early stage” and declined to disclose further details.
Police Scotland Confirms Ongoing Inquiries
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed that detectives had received information about the reported visit and were examining the matter. The force said its inquiries would be evidence-led, with the needs of victim-survivors remaining central to the investigation.
In a statement, the spokesperson said:
“We have received information and active inquiries are ongoing but these are at a very early stage. All inquiries are evidence-led, with the needs of victim survivors at the heart of those inquiries.
“We would never confirm details of ongoing inquiries and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
The statement confirms that police are actively examining information but does not establish the nature or outcome of any alleged criminal activity. Police Scotland has also not identified any individuals as suspects in connection with the reported visit.
Reports Refer to Allegations of Human Trafficking
The Daily Express reported that the police inquiries relate to claims that women were trafficked to Balmoral while Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, Epstein and Maxwell were associated with the royal estate.
The reported allegations have not been confirmed by Police Scotland. The force has not publicly disclosed the information it received, the specific incidents being examined or whether investigators have identified potential victims.
The distinction is important because the investigation remains at an early stage. The allegations reported by the newspaper should not be treated as established findings while police inquiries are continuing.
Photographs Show Andrew and Epstein on a Shooting Trip
Photographs previously released by the US Department of Justice appear to show Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Jeffrey Epstein together during a shooting trip at Balmoral.
The images have drawn attention to the pair’s association and the reported visit to the Scottish estate. Ghislaine Maxwell was also reportedly present during the visit, placing all three figures within the circumstances now attracting police attention.
The photographs provide a visual record of Andrew and Epstein together at the estate, but they do not, by themselves, establish the trafficking allegations reported by the Daily Express.
Investigation at a Very Early Stage
Police Scotland has not provided a timeline for the investigation or indicated when further information might become available. Its spokesperson said the force would not confirm details of ongoing inquiries, limiting what could be disclosed publicly at this stage.
The force has reiterated that its approach will be evidence-led and that the needs of victim-survivors will remain at the heart of its work.
Further details are expected to depend on the progress of the inquiries and any evidence gathered by detectives. For now, Police Scotland has confirmed that it has received information and that active inquiries concerning the reported visit to Balmoral are continuing.
