Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani, 98, was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Jasola, Delhi, on Friday evening with a chest infection. He is currently under observation, with a team of doctors monitoring his condition.

According to hospital officials, Advani was brought to the hospital at around 7:30 pm. He was admitted to the pulmonary department, and medical tests are underway to assess his condition.

LK Advani Hospitalised Again This Year

This is not Advani’s first hospitalisation this year. He was previously admitted to Apollo Hospital in May due to age-related health issues. He remained under medical care for a few days before being discharged.

Further details about his current condition have not been disclosed by the hospital.

LK Advani’s Role in the BJP’s Growth

LK Advani is regarded as one of the key figures behind the BJP’s rise in Indian politics. He served as the party’s president for three terms: from 1986 to 1990, from 1993 to 1998, and from 2004 to 2005.

On September 25, 1990, Advani launched the Ram Rath Yatra from Somnath in Gujarat. The campaign brought the Ram temple movement into the national political spotlight. However, the yatra was halted when he was arrested in Samastipur, Bihar, on October 23, 1990.

In December 1992, the Babri Masjid was demolished in Ayodhya. In 2020, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court acquitted Advani and other accused in the demolition case.

Advani’s Political Career and Bharat Ratna

Advani also served as the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister in the Morarji Desai government from 1977 to 1979.

During the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he served as Union Home Minister from 1998 to 2004 and as Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004.

His tenure as Home Minister coincided with major national security events, including the Kargil conflict and the December 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament.

In 2024, Advani was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in recognition of his contribution to public life.

As the veteran BJP leader remains under medical observation at Apollo Hospital, further updates on his health are awaited.
