India will be without Washington Sundar for the opening Test, creating an opportunity for Saransh Jain to strengthen the spin department alongside Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar.
Meanwhile, the availability of Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan depends on their recovery and final assessment by the BCCI Centre of Excellence before the series begins.
India Prepare for Spin-Friendly Conditions
With Sri Lankan pitches traditionally offering significant assistance to spinners, India have selected multiple spin-bowling options. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav remain the experienced leaders of the attack, while Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain provide additional depth and variety.
The team will begin its preparations with a four-day practice match in Colombo from August 7 before the two-match Test series gets underway.
