Champions League Matchweek 4: Records, Stats and Milestones

The fourth matchweek of the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League league phase delivered a remarkable collection of records, historic milestones and unexpected results. Lamine Yamal moved ahead of Kylian Mbappé in the competition’s teenage scoring charts, Kylian Mbappé reached 100 career goal contributions, and Raphinha overtook Brazilian legend Rivaldo to become Barcelona’s leading Brazilian scorer in Champions League history.

Paris Saint-Germain produced one of the most impressive performances of the round, beating Villarreal 6-0 away from home. The French champions also set several competition records, including becoming the first team to score 20 goals across the opening four matches of a Champions League season.

Real Madrid maintained their perfect record with a dramatic 3-2 victory away to AEK Athens, while Arsenal stayed third after defeating Slavia Prague 2-1. Italian debutants Como attracted attention with a stunning 9-1 win over Lens, becoming the first team to score nine goals in a Champions League match away from home.

Barcelona secured a 3-0 victory against Aston Villa, while Bayern Munich defeated Atletico Madrid 2-0 and Borussia Dortmund beat Real Betis 2-1. Manchester United completed an impressive 3-2 comeback against Roma, but Liverpool suffered a 3-2 defeat to Fenerbahce. Inter beat Feyenoord 3-0, while Napoli endured a 4-1 loss away to Porto.

These results produced several significant statistical milestones across the competition. Here are the standout numbers and records from Matchweek 4 of the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League.

Lamine Yamal Breaks Kylian Mbappé’s Teenage Scoring Record

14 – Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal scored his 14th UEFA Champions League goal, establishing a new record for the most goals scored by a teenager in the competition. At 19 years old, he moved ahead of Kylian Mbappé, with both players previously tied on the teenage scoring list.

Yamal’s achievement highlights his remarkable scoring record at a young age. He will turn 20 in July, after the conclusion of the current season, giving him the opportunity to add to his Champions League total before leaving the teenage category.

Mbappé Reaches 100 Champions League Goal Contributions

100 – Kylian Mbappé reached 100 career goal contributions in the UEFA Champions League during his 102nd appearance. The Real Madrid forward has recorded 74 goals and 26 assists in the competition.

Only Lionel Messi reached the 100-contribution milestone in fewer appearances, achieving it in 101 matches. Mbappé therefore became the second-fastest player to reach the landmark.

6 – Mbappé has now scored in six consecutive Champions League appearances for Real Madrid, recording six goals during that run. The streak matches his longest scoring sequence in the competition, which he previously achieved with Paris Saint-Germain between November 2021 and September 2022.

Raphinha Overtakes Rivaldo in Barcelona’s Brazilian Scoring Records

23 – Raphinha reached 23 Champions League goals for Barcelona, moving past Rivaldo’s previous total of 22. The Brazilian is now the club’s highest-scoring Brazilian player in the competition.

Only Lionel Messi, with 120 goals, and Luis Suárez, with 25, have scored more Champions League goals for Barcelona. Raphinha also moved level with Robert Lewandowski on 23 goals.

7 – Raphinha scored the seventh brace of his Champions League career. He is now level with Vinícius Júnior for the second-most two-goal performances by a Brazilian player in the competition, behind Neymar, who recorded nine.

19 – Raphinha has scored 19 goals in all competitions this season, the highest total among players representing clubs in Europe’s top five leagues. Mbappé is second on the list with 16 goals.

18 – Barcelona ended an 18-match run without a clean sheet in the Champions League after beating Aston Villa 3-0. Their previous clean sheet in the competition had come against Borussia Dortmund in April 2025, when they won 4-0.

Real Madrid Extend Their Record-Breaking Champions League History

10 – Jude Bellingham scored his 10th Champions League goal as a Real Madrid player. His total is one more than the combined number of goals scored by all other English players for the Spanish club.

Before Bellingham, the English players to score for Real Madrid in the competition included Steve McManaman with five goals, David Beckham with two, and Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Owen with one each. Their combined total was nine.

28.5 yards – Federico Valverde scored from 28.5 yards, approximately 26.1 metres, against AEK Athens. It was the longest-range goal of his Champions League career. Both of Valverde’s goals this season in the competition have been match-winning strikes, with his earlier winner coming against Inter Milan in Matchweek 1.

9 – Valverde’s late goal became Real Madrid’s ninth winning goal scored in the 90th minute of a Champions League match, the highest total by any club in the competition’s history. It was also Madrid’s second 90th-minute winner of the current season, following their late victory against Roma.

2 – Real Madrid became only the second team to score 90th-minute winning goals in multiple away matches during a single Champions League season. They achieved the feat against Roma and AEK Athens. Atletico Madrid were the first team to do so, recording two such victories during the 2021-22 campaign.

1 – AEK Athens forward Aboubakary Koïta made history by becoming the first player representing Mauritania to score a goal in the UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United Produce a Historic Comeback Against Roma

4 – Manchester United recorded their fourth Champions League victory after trailing by at least two goals. They are now level with Real Madrid for the most victories of this type in the competition’s history.

The comeback against Roma was also United’s first victory after falling two or more goals behind since their 3-2 Premier League win against Aston Villa in December 2023. Their previous Champions League comeback from such a position came against Atalanta in October 2021.

6 – Matheus Cunha has been directly involved in six goals for Manchester United across all competitions this season, scoring four and providing two assists. The Brazilian has also scored three goals in four Champions League appearances for the club after failing to score in his previous 12 appearances in the competition.

44 out of 50 – Bruno Fernandes has scored 44 of the 50 penalties he has taken for Manchester United, excluding shootouts. His four Champions League penalty goals for the club place him second on the club’s list, behind Ruud van Nistelrooy, who scored five.

1 out of 14 – Manchester United have kept just one clean sheet in 14 matches across all competitions this season. Their only shutout came against Sabah on September 10.

Roma Make Unwanted Champions League History

1 – Roma became the first team since the 2010-11 season to lose multiple Champions League matches after holding a lead in the 80th minute or later.

The Italian side also became the first club in European Cup history to lose two matches in the same season after leading by multiple goals at some point in each game. Their defeat to Manchester United added another unwanted milestone to an already difficult European campaign.

27 – Donyell Malen has scored 27 goals in all competitions since making his Roma debut in January. Only Harry Kane, with 39 goals, has scored more for a club in Europe’s top five leagues during the same period.

Como Make Champions League History With Nine Goals

9 – Como became only the second team to score nine goals in a single Champions League match after defeating Lens 9-1. They also became the first team to reach nine goals in an away match in the competition.

Bayern Munich previously scored nine goals against Dinamo Zagreb during the 2024-25 season, winning 9-2. However, Como’s achievement was particularly notable because it came away from home.

8 – Como’s eight-goal winning margin matched the largest victory margin in Champions League history. Real Madrid previously defeated Malmö 8-0 in 2015, while Liverpool recorded the same scoreline against Besiktas in 2007.

8 – Nico Paz recorded eight goal contributions in the current Champions League season, consisting of three goals and five assists. He moved ahead of Tasos Douvikas, Harry Kane and Lamine Yamal, who had seven contributions each.

Tasos Douvikas Records a Historic Hat Trick

3 – Tasos Douvikas became the third Greek international to score a Champions League hat trick. He joined Kostas Mitroglou, who achieved the feat for Olympiacos in 2013-14, and Vangelis Pavlidis, who scored one for Benfica in 2024-25.

Douvikas also recorded the first hat trick by a Como player in UEFA competition history, making his performance against Lens another major milestone for the Italian club.

4 – Douvikas has scored in all four of Como’s Champions League matches this season. He became only the second player to score in each of a team’s first four appearances in the competition, joining Alessandro Del Piero, who scored in Juventus’ first five matches during the 1995-96 campaign.

5 – Douvikas became the fifth player to score an away Champions League hat trick for an Italian club. He is also the first to achieve the feat since Josip Iličić scored four goals for Atalanta against Valencia in the 2019-20 season.

PSG Set Multiple Champions League Scoring Records

1 – Paris Saint-Germain became the first team in Champions League history to score at least four goals in four consecutive matches in the competition. Their 6-0 victory over Villarreal continued an extraordinary scoring run.

PSG also became the first club to score six goals in an away Champions League match against Spanish opposition. The 6-0 result represented the largest winning margin achieved by a visiting team against a Spanish opponent in the competition.

20 – PSG became the first team in Champions League history to score 20 goals across the opening four matches of a single season. Their attacking output placed them at the top of the league-phase table after Matchweek 4.

16 minutes and 2 seconds – PSG scored four goals in just 16 minutes and two seconds against Villarreal, setting a new record for the fastest time a team has taken to score four goals in a Champions League match. Real Madrid previously held the record after scoring four times within 20 minutes against Dinamo Zagreb in 2011.

Manchester City and RB Leipzig Produce a High-Scoring Rivalry

35 – Manchester City and RB Leipzig have now scored a combined 35 goals across their seven Champions League meetings. City have scored 24, while Leipzig have scored 11.

The fixture averages five goals per match, making it the highest-scoring matchup among Champions League fixtures played at least five times.

13 – Erling Haaland has scored 13 goals in nine career appearances against RB Leipzig across all competitions, making them the opponent against whom he has scored the most goals.

7 – Haaland has scored seven of those goals in the Champions League alone, also his highest total against any single opponent in the competition.

More Important Records From Matchweek 4

23 – Slavia Prague’s winless run: Following their defeat to Arsenal, Slavia Prague have gone 23 European Cup matches without a victory, recording eight draws and 15 defeats. The run equals the longest winless sequence in the competition’s history, previously recorded by AEK Athens between 1989 and 2006 and FCSB between 2006 and 2013.

16 – Viktor Gyökeres’ goal contributions: Arsenal forward Viktor Gyökeres has recorded 16 career Champions League goal contributions, consisting of 12 goals and four assists. He is level with Emil Forsberg and Freddie Ljungberg for the second-highest total among Swedish internationals, behind Zlatan Ibrahimović’s 72.

10 – Noni Madueke ends his drought: Arsenal winger Noni Madueke ended a 10-match scoreless run in the Champions League. His previous goals in the competition had come when he scored twice against Club Brugge last December.

10 – Harry Kane’s scoring streak ends: Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane failed to score against Atletico Madrid, bringing his Champions League scoring streak to an end at 10 consecutive matches. He narrowly missed matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s competition record of 11 consecutive scoring appearances.

4 – Lennart Karl’s teenage milestone: Lennart Karl became the fourth player to score five Champions League goals before turning 19. He joined Lamine Yamal, who has 11, Kylian Mbappé, who has 10, and Raúl González, who scored six before reaching that age.

Liverpool’s Defeat to Fenerbahce Adds to Defensive Concerns

0 out of 6 – Liverpool have failed to win any of their six away matches against Turkish teams in the European Cup or Champions League. They have lost five of those games, including their last four consecutive visits.

The defeat to Fenerbahce also meant Liverpool became the first club to lose five consecutive away matches against teams from one country in the European Cup or Champions League.

10 – Liverpool have conceded 10 goals across their first four Champions League matches this season, their highest total at this stage of a league-phase or group-stage campaign.

3 – The Fenerbahce defeat marked the first time Liverpool had conceded at least three goals in three consecutive matches in major European competition. It was also the first time they had conceded three set-piece goals in a single Champions League match, excluding penalties.

2 – Archie Brown and Mason Greenwood both scored for Fenerbahce against Liverpool. It was only the second time two English players had scored against an English team in a Champions League match. The previous occasion came in April 2004, when Frank Lampard and Wayne Bridge scored for Chelsea against Arsenal.

1 – Mason Greenwood became the first player to score a direct free-kick against Liverpool in the Champions League since Lionel Messi scored for Barcelona in May 2019.

1 – Alexander Isak scored his first Champions League goal in 10 career appearances for Liverpool. His strike came at 68 minutes and 25 seconds, just two minutes and 46 seconds after he entered the match as a substitute.

19 years and 127 days – Trey Nyoni became the second-youngest player to score a Champions League goal for Liverpool at 19 years and 127 days. Only Trent Alexander-Arnold, who scored at 19 years and 10 days against Maribor in 2017, was younger.

Champions League Matchweek 4 Delivers a Remarkable Collection of Records

Matchweek 4 of the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League produced historic achievements across several clubs and individual players. Yamal moved ahead of Mbappé in the teenage scoring rankings, while Mbappé reached 100 career goal contributions and Raphinha surpassed Rivaldo’s Barcelona scoring record among Brazilian players.

PSG’s six-goal victory over Villarreal established multiple team scoring records, while Como’s extraordinary 9-1 win over Lens placed the Italian newcomers in the competition’s record books. Real Madrid also maintained their perfect start, with Valverde delivering another late winning goal.

Manchester United’s comeback against Roma provided another memorable moment, but Liverpool’s defeat to Fenerbahce highlighted their defensive problems. With the league phase continuing, the records and performances from Matchweek 4 have added further intrigue to the 2026-27 Champions League campaign.
