India Women Squad for Asian Games 2026: Yastika Bhatia Dropped, G Kamalini Selected as Backup Wicketkeeper

India women’s cricket team Asian Games 2026 squad has been announced with G Kamalini earning a place as the backup wicketkeeper while Yastika Bhatia has been left out. The Asian Games cricket competition will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, in September 2026.

The squad features most of the players who were part of India’s Women’s T20 World Cup campaign. The only significant change is the inclusion of young wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini in place of Yastika Bhatia.

G Kamalini Replaces Yastika Bhatia

Yastika Bhatia played four matches during the Women’s T20 World Cup and scored 41 runs in three innings at an average of 13.66. However, India struggled to find a fixed role for her in the middle order.

G Kamalini, aged 17, has impressed with her performances in the Women’s Premier League for Mumbai Indians. She has played one T20I for India, scoring 12 runs against Sri Lanka in December 2025.

Shreyanka Patil Included Subject to Fitness

All-rounder Shreyanka Patil has been selected in the squad but her participation depends on fitness clearance. Patil missed the Women’s T20 World Cup after suffering an ankle ligament injury during India’s match against the Netherlands.

Leg-spinner Prema Rawat, who replaced Shreyanka during the World Cup and featured in one match, has not been included in the Asian Games squad.

India Aim to Defend Asian Games Gold Medal

India won the gold medal in women’s cricket at the 2023 Asian Games after defeating Sri Lanka in the final. The 2026 competition will feature teams including Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and China.

The women’s cricket tournament will take place from September 17 to September 22, 2026.
