Mitchell Starc Becomes No.1 in ICC Test Bowling Rankings

Mitchell Starc has become the new No.1 bowler in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings, ending Jasprit Bumrah’s latest spell at the summit after an exceptional performance against Bangladesh.

The Australia fast bowler produced a match-winning display in the second Test in Mackay, taking 10 wickets as Australia secured an innings-and-51-run victory. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award and helped him reach the top ranking for the first time in his career.

Mitchell Starc Claims No.1 Ranking for the First Time

Starc was at his devastating best in Mackay, claiming 6/12 in Bangladesh’s first innings. His spell included a first-ball wicket and a remarkable five-wicket burst in just 22 balls.

He followed that performance with another four wickets in the second innings, finishing the Test with match figures of 10/51.

Starc’s outstanding figures also helped Australia complete a dominant victory and secure a series win against Bangladesh. He was subsequently named Player of the Series after collecting 12 wickets across the two-Test series.

The latest ICC Rankings reward Starc’s exceptional form. He now sits at the top with 872 rating points, ahead of Bumrah on 862 and New Zealand’s Matt Henry on 861.

Jasprit Bumrah Drops to Second Place

Jasprit Bumrah’s latest reign as the world’s No.1 Test bowler has lasted only two months. The Indian fast bowler has now slipped to second place, just 10 rating points behind Starc.

Despite losing the top position, Bumrah’s overall record at No.1 remains remarkable. He has spent a combined 697 days as the world’s leading Test bowler, the most by any Indian bowler and the 14th-most in the history of the rankings.

Bumrah could have added to that tally during India’s Test tour of Sri Lanka, but he missed the series after suffering a knee injury during India’s ODI series in England in July.

Pat Cummins Moves Into Fourth Place

Starc was not the only Australian bowler to make progress in the latest rankings. Captain Pat Cummins climbed to fourth position after taking six wickets in the second Test against Bangladesh.

The strong performances from Australia’s pace attack have strengthened the country’s presence near the top of the Test bowling rankings.

Ollie Robinson Makes Major Ranking Jump

England fast bowler Ollie Robinson was another major mover in the latest rankings.

Robinson climbed 15 places to reach 11th after taking eight wickets in England’s innings-and-103-run victory over Pakistan in the first Test in Leeds.

His match-winning performance also earned him the Player of the Match award and significantly improved his position among the world’s leading Test bowlers.

Manav Suthar Makes Huge Progress

India’s Manav Suthar also made a significant jump in the latest ICC Test bowling rankings.

The left-arm spinner climbed 28 places to reach a career-best 48th position after taking 10 wickets during India’s 165-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle.

Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando and Prabath Jayasuriya also moved five places each. Fernando climbed to 15th, while Jayasuriya reached 16th in the bowling rankings.

Rishabh Pant Returns to Test Batting Top 10

There was also positive news for India’s Rishabh Pant in the latest batting rankings. The wicketkeeper-batter returned to the top 10 for the first time in a year after producing scores of 39 and 66 in the Galle Test.

Pant climbed six places to seventh position, strengthening his position among the world’s leading Test batters.

Harry Brook Continues to Lead Batting Rankings

England’s Harry Brook retained the No.1 position in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings. He extended his advantage over teammate Joe Root to 24 rating points.

Brook scored 90 in the first Test against Pakistan, while Root contributed 66. The pair remain first and second respectively in the batting rankings.
