The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season completed its 17th race with the inaugural Anduril 250 at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego. Rising star Corey Heim delivered a stunning performance, overtaking Tyler Reddick with just three laps remaining to claim his first-ever victory in NASCAR’s premier series.
The historic win marked a major milestone in Heim’s career and added another twist to an increasingly competitive championship battle as drivers continue fighting for a place in the 16-driver playoff field after the regular season.
Tyler Reddick Holds Slim Lead Over Denny Hamlin
Despite finishing 25th in San Diego, Tyler Reddick managed to remain at the top of the NASCAR Cup Series standings with 716 points. However, his advantage has been reduced to just eight points over second-placed Denny Hamlin, who earned 23 points with a 14th-place finish.
Hamlin now sits on 708 points and remains firmly positioned for the playoffs, holding a comfortable margin above the postseason cut line.
Defending NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson enjoyed a strong outing, finishing third and collecting 42 points. The result helped Larson climb to fourth place in the championship standings with 536 points.
Shane van Gisbergen Suffers Setback
Starting from pole position, Shane van Gisbergen endured a frustrating afternoon after being involved in an on-track incident that left him classified in 38th place. The disappointing finish earned him only one point, leaving him 17th in the standings with 362 points.
Van Gisbergen currently sits just outside the provisional playoff positions and faces increasing pressure heading into the next round.
