England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt has been declared fit ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final against South Africa at The Oval, providing a massive boost to the hosts as they chase a place in the final.
Sciver-Brunt missed England’s last three matches after suffering a recurrence of a calf muscle injury during the team’s second group-stage fixture against Ireland in Southampton. The all-rounder had originally sustained the injury while playing domestic cricket in late April, forcing her to miss England’s series against New Zealand and India before the World Cup.
Despite the setback, she returned for the tournament, scoring 57 in a warm-up game against India before contributing an unbeaten 46 against Sri Lanka and 48 against Ireland before being forced off the field.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s semi-final, Sciver-Brunt confirmed she is fully fit to resume all-round duties.
“We literally threw everything at it. I’m really happy with where I am at physically. Myself and the medical team are really happy with where we’re at. Physically I’m able to take part in all of the game, so from that point of view I’m really happy,” Sciver-Brunt said.
Selection headache for England
England enjoyed an unbeaten group-stage campaign without their captain, with Charlie Dean leading the side in her absence. During that period, Sophia Dunkley impressed after returning to the playing XI, registering scores of 57, 14 and an unbeaten 49, while Alice Capsey contributed 73 runs across three innings.
Sciver-Brunt admitted that someone will be disappointed to make way but praised her teammates for stepping up during her absence.
“Walking off not really knowing what’s happened, knowing something has happened, getting the scan results back, we had this game in mind. The New Zealand game came too soon. This game was the target, so everything’s gone according to plan,” she added.
England eye place in final
England will face South Africa in the second semi-final at The Oval on Thursday, with the winner advancing to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 final. The return of Sciver-Brunt strengthens England’s batting and bowling departments as they look to continue their unbeaten run in the tournament.
