Sri Lanka Replace Dewmi Vihanga With Nimasha Meepage for T20 Asia Cup

Sri Lanka have named Nimasha Meepage as Dewmi Vihanga’s replacement for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup after the allrounder suffered a right-knee injury during a practice match.

Vihanga was unable to travel with the Sri Lankan squad to the UAE after sustaining the injury. As a result, she will have to wait for her T20I debut, with Meepage now added to the defending champions’ 15-member squad.

Nimasha Meepage Replaces Dewmi Vihanga

Meepage is a left-arm spinner who made her T20I debut for Sri Lanka in December 2025. She has represented the national team 14 times across formats and brings international experience into the squad ahead of the continental tournament.

In T20I cricket, Meepage has taken six wickets in nine innings. She currently has a bowling average of 38.33 and an economy rate of 7.66.

Her inclusion gives Sri Lanka another spin-bowling option as they prepare to defend their Women’s T20 Asia Cup title.

Sri Lanka Squad Remains Unchanged Apart from Replacement

The rest of Sri Lanka’s squad remains unchanged following Vihanga’s withdrawal. Chamari Athapaththu will continue to captain the side, while Harshitha Samarawickrama has been named vice-captain.

Kaushini Nuthyangana is the only wicketkeeper included in the 15-member squad.

Sri Lanka Begin Asia Cup Title Defence Against UAE

Sri Lanka have been placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.

The defending champions will begin their Women’s T20 Asia Cup campaign against the UAE on August 29 as they look to retain the title.

Sri Lanka won the previous edition of the tournament in 2024, defeating India in the final in Dambulla to claim the Asia Cup trophy.

Vihanga’s T20I Debut Delayed

Dewmi Vihanga’s injury means she will have to wait longer for her first appearance in T20I cricket for Sri Lanka. The allrounder picked up the right-knee injury during a practice game and did not travel with the team to the UAE.

Sri Lanka will now rely on Meepage to fill the vacant spot as they begin their campaign against the UAE on August 29.
