The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged divisions within the Congress leadership, claiming that Rahul Gandhi‘s camp is attempting to sideline his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, amid concerns about her growing influence in the party.

BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused the Congress leadership of denying Priyanka an opportunity to address the INDIA bloc rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. He also claimed that she was sidelined during the party’s mock Parliament event held a day earlier.

The allegations have not been independently established and were presented by the BJP as part of its criticism of the Congress leadership.

BJP Claims Congress Has Two Competing Power Centres

In a video statement, Bhandari alleged that the Congress has two competing power centres, with Rahul Gandhi’s camp attempting to limit Priyanka Gandhi’s political prominence.

He questioned why Priyanka, who has served as Congress general secretary, was not given an opportunity to speak at the Opposition rally.

“Priyanka Vadra, who has served as the General Secretary of the Congress Party and is Rahul Gandhi’s sister, was not allowed to speak today at the Ramlila Ground. Did Rahul Gandhi prevent her from speaking today?” Bhandari said.

The BJP spokesperson also claimed that Priyanka was seated in the second row during the mock Parliament event and was not given an opportunity to address the gathering. He described the programme as Rahul Gandhi’s “relaunch exercise”.

Accusing the Congress leadership of being apprehensive about Priyanka’s influence, Bhandari argued that internal party politics was taking priority over public concerns.

“The Rahul camp is insecure about the Priyanka camp, and the Priyanka camp is being suppressed,” he alleged.

Bhandari further claimed that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was attempting to sideline his sister.

Pradeep Bhandari Takes Another Swipe at Congress

Continuing his attack, Bhandari alleged that the Congress was divided into separate factions supporting Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. He suggested that the alleged differences were visible to the public.

“Between Rahul versus Priyanka, the Congress is divided into two factions, and the public is watching this fight while eating popcorn,” the BJP spokesperson said.

The BJP’s remarks focused on the siblings’ respective positions within the Congress and the party’s internal leadership dynamics. However, the claims about an effort to suppress Priyanka’s influence remain allegations made by Bhandari, rather than independently confirmed developments.

INDIA Bloc Holds Ramlila Maidan Rally Against SIR

The BJP’s criticism came as Opposition parties gathered at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan for the INDIA bloc’s ‘Chalo Dilli’ rally against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged irregularities in the exercise.

The march began at the Minto Road-Connaught Place junction before proceeding towards Ramlila Maidan. The rally followed a mock Parliament event held in the national capital on October 31, during which Opposition leaders organised a public mock impeachment programme against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Several prominent Opposition leaders attended the rally, including Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Trinamool Congress leaders Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Other leaders present included National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, CPI leader D Raja, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

Political Tensions Continue Between BJP and Congress

The BJP’s allegations added another point of political confrontation between the ruling party and the Congress during the INDIA bloc’s campaign against the electoral roll revision exercise.

While Bhandari portrayed the reported absence of Priyanka Gandhi from the rally’s speeches and her position at the mock Parliament event as signs of internal divisions, the claims have not been independently verified. The Congress leadership’s position on the allegations was not included in the available information.
