The Netherlands won the toss and elected to bowl first against South Africa in a crucial Group 1 encounter of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in Bristol. With semifinal qualification still within reach, South Africa will be aiming not only for victory but also a significant boost to their net run rate.
Earlier in the day, India strengthened their semifinal hopes with a five-wicket win over Bangladesh, chasing down 137 in just 16.5 overs to move into second place in the group with a net run rate of +2.26. South Africa currently sit behind with a net run rate of -0.546, making a convincing win vital.
South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt welcomed the opportunity to bat first after losing the toss and stressed that her side’s primary focus remains securing two points before worrying about qualification scenarios.
The Netherlands were forced into a change after opener Heather Siegers was ruled out due to illness. Sanya Khurana returned to the side as her replacement, while medium pacer Hannah Landheer came in for Isabel van der Woning, who went wicketless in her first three matches of the tournament.
South Africa, meanwhile, retained the same playing XI that defeated India. Experienced all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, who had fitness concerns earlier in the competition, was declared fit and available for selection.
Netherlands Playing XI
Sanya Khurana, Phoebe Molkenboer, Babette de Leede (c & wk), Sterre Kalis, Robine Rijke, Frederique Overdijk, Iris Zwilling, Myrthe van den Raad, Hannah Landheer, Caroline de Lange, Silver Siegers.
