Ishan Kishan’s Stunning Stumping in Duleep Trophy 2026 Goes Viral

Ishan Kishan produced a brilliant wicketkeeping moment during East Zone’s Duleep Trophy 2026 quarterfinal clash against North East Zone, pulling off a sensational stumping while standing up to pacer Abhijit K Sarkar.

The incident occurred on Day 2 of the first quarterfinal on August 24. Sarkar bowled a delivery down the leg side to North East Zone batter Ashish Thapa, who attempted to play the ball but lost his balance in the process.

Kishan reacted quickly behind the stumps. Although he initially fumbled while collecting the delivery, the East Zone captain regained control and completed the dismissal with one hand while Thapa’s leg was still in the air.

The impressive piece of wicketkeeping quickly attracted attention on social media. Kishan’s ability to stand up to a fast bowler and react so quickly highlighted his confidence and sharpness behind the wickets.

Thapa was dismissed after scoring 19 runs from 36 deliveries. Sarkar was the star performer with the ball, finishing with five wickets from 9.5 overs.

Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed also played a major role in East Zone’s bowling effort, claiming three wickets as North East Zone were bowled out for just 111 runs in 42.5 overs.

East Zone Dominate North East Zone

East Zone had already taken control of the quarterfinal after posting a huge first-innings total of 467 runs.

Sudip Kumar Gharami and Shahbaz Ahmed were the major contributors with the bat. Gharami scored an impressive 146, while Shahbaz produced a superb 167 to put East Zone in a commanding position.

However, East Zone’s top order struggled early. Abhimanyu Easwaran, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and captain Ishan Kishan were dismissed cheaply. Kishan scored only four runs from nine balls before being dismissed by Pheirojiam Jotin.

Abhijit Sarkar Leads East Zone’s Bowling Attack

After East Zone posted 467, their bowlers completely dominated North East Zone’s batting lineup.

Sarkar triggered the collapse with his five-wicket haul, while Shahbaz Ahmed provided excellent support with three wickets. North East Zone were eventually dismissed for only 111 runs.

The collapse allowed East Zone to enforce the follow-on and put themselves in a strong position to secure a place in the Duleep Trophy semifinals.

When Will Ishan Kishan Play for India Next?

If East Zone reach the Duleep Trophy final, Kishan could potentially join India’s T20I setup before the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.

The India-Afghanistan T20I series is scheduled to begin on September 13. The Duleep Trophy 2026 final is scheduled to start on September 6 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Ishan Kishan’s Test Comeback

Ishan Kishan is still waiting for another opportunity in India’s Test team. India currently have Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel as their wicketkeeper-batter options.

Kishan made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2023. He was also included in India’s Test squad for the South Africa series but later withdrew from the tour citing personal reasons.

His performances in domestic cricket, including his wicketkeeping and batting contributions for East Zone, could remain important as he looks to strengthen his case for a return to the Indian team.

East Zone Eye Duleep Trophy Semifinal Spot

With North East Zone following on after being bowled out for 111, East Zone are firmly in control of the quarterfinal. A victory would send Ishan Kishan’s side into the semifinals, which are scheduled to begin on August 30.
