Vaibhav Suryavanshi has once again become the centre of attention ahead of India’s first T20I against England after an explosive batting display during the team’s net session. The 15-year-old prodigy showcased his trademark attacking strokeplay in practice, further fueling speculation that he could receive his maiden India cap in the series opener at the Riverside Ground in Durham.
India enter the five-match T20I series looking to bounce back from their recent 0-2 defeat against Ireland. Although Suryavanshi was widely expected to debut during that series, the youngster remained on the sidelines despite being part of the squad.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi shines in India’s practice session
A practice video shared by the broadcaster captured Suryavanshi in outstanding touch, confidently dispatching deliveries to all parts of the ground with his aggressive strokeplay. His fluent batting has only intensified calls for Team India to hand the teenager his long-awaited international debut against England.
The left-handed opener heads into the series full of confidence after producing a sensational unbeaten 94 off just 29 balls in the Tri-Nation A Series final against Sri Lanka A. During that remarkable innings, Suryavanshi also smashed the fastest fifty in the competition, reaching the milestone in just 11 deliveries.
Shreyas Iyer keeps India’s playing XI a secret
Despite the growing excitement surrounding Suryavanshi, newly appointed T20I captain Shreyas Iyer declined to reveal whether the youngster will feature in the playing XI, insisting that team combinations would remain confidential until match day.
“He’s a brilliant prodigy, and whenever he gets an opportunity to play, he’ll do brilliantly. We can’t reveal our team combination before the game because it would help the opposition,” Iyer said.
While the final decision remains with the team management, Suryavanshi’s impressive form in practice and recent performances have strengthened the belief that his India debut may not be far away as the visitors begin their T20I campaign against England.
